4 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Very nice little town with cute coffee shops and good pizza.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The San Marcos atmosphere is really fun. On Friday and Saturday nights you can feel the tension between cops and college students. All TXST students know their way around every apartment complex because of all the parties. San Marcos is basically all students and the town sort of revolves around the school. For example, at HEB it has a mural of a bobcat right on the inside. It's definitely a river town, sort of by itself but close enough to Austin if you want to go into a big city.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: no alot to eat and only the outlets

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The river is the main attraction. It's stunning and adds live and good vibes to the campus and the city around it.

5 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: There is always something to do here. If not in San Marcos, then Austin is only half an hour away. Many students go to Austin on the weekends to enjoy the activities there.

San Marcos, Texas is a nice, quiet, little town. It has a real hometown feel to it. The locals are friendly to students, the traffic really isn't that bad (unless a train comes through, then traffic can get backed up), and the San Marcos River really ties the community together.

Local businesses are very receptive to the needs of students. They offer special discounts, ranging from free car inspections and apartment locating to discounted meals or drinks. San Marcos is also about a 30-minute drive from Austin's infamous Sixth Street. Plus, there are party buses that take you from San Marcos to Austin and back, so you don't have to drive.
