College Freshman

Academics: SLAC is a student learninc academic center that is very beneficial to anyone who needs a free tutor.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs are not a big deal at Texas State other than Marijuana. Drinking is more popular

5 College Sophomore

Computers: There are multiple computer labs availiabl on campus. Even during busy times such as mid terms and finals you can most likely find a computer to use. Also, the software of the computers is very helpful.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: San Marcos – There are a lot of activities in San Marcos for everyone. Whether it is floating the river or walking around downtown. Major cities such as Austin are in close proximity and local towns such as New Braunsfels and Gruene. There is never a dull moment in San Marcos

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I Wish I Was Rich! Texas State has a pretty affordable tuition compared to other neighboring universitys. The university was supposed to give me a certain amount of money for coming from a low gross income family, but because of lack of fundson their end I did not receive the amount the "promised". yet in the end they gave me money, not the amount they promised but enough to pay for the rest of my tuition.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Smokers Beware! Recently our campus has become a Tobacco Free campus! No more inhaling that disgusting smoke and getting lung cancer. If you get caught . . . . good luck.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Wholesome and Nutritious – The dining halls on campus have really good food. Some halls serve healthier foods than others but overall the food is of high quality. It can be expensive if you didn't buy a meal plan like myself, but friends of mine who did buy a meal plan have found that it is more convient and worth the money.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: I haven't heard nor seen any challenges regarding diversity.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: The facilities are great. Everything here is great, actually. All of my professors are willing to anything to help out the students. I cannot forget the beautiful campus itself. There are many hills, a river, sand volleyball courts, and basketball courts on campus. What more could you ask for?

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Its a long process but then when you get it its okay. the lines are long depending on what time and day you go.

1 College Freshman

Scholarships: I didn't recieve any...I looked high low for some that were for average students and aren't Bill Nye the Science guy or Future Evil Genius Ruler of the World smart, because I'm an average student, yet I couldn't find any for me.

3 College Freshman

Computers: Are computer aren't state of the art, but they get the job done in a proefficient amount of time.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Medium Sized Town – Pretty small town feel, but deffinitely gaining some speed in terms of population. Somewhat rural, but definitely not country nor is it booming like Austin; it's got just enough and you're within two major cities if you really just want to go somewhere!

5 College Junior

Academics: A - They Are Excellent – A- The classes are very informative and the teachers help the students the whole way.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Fun but a Lot of Parties! It's been really fun, there is always something going on. But I think people are too focused on partying instead of focusing on studies

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Pretty Attractive – Most guys and girls on campus are very attractive, dress nicely and definitely utilize the rec center to keep up their shape

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Hit or Miss – We have 2 dining halls that are buffet style, and some days its great, and other days it's horrible. Some of their food just has no good taste, it's very bland. But other days, its very delicious. They do rotate their menu quite a bit. There is also a dining hall that has different places in it, but it's not very good either. The most common place to eat, The Lair and The Den all have great places to eat, and even healthy places. I like those the most.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: It Has Everything – Texas State has some of everything and I have yet to witness any sort of racism or discriminatio.

Campus Housing: Greatly Varies – Freshman dorms are not good at all. They're small (10ft by 10ft, that you share with another person) with community bathrooms, no elevators, etc. Upperclassmen dorms are nice. Most are apartment style.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: Party School – Texas State University is known as a party school. Any day of the week, there's fraternity parties, sorority parties, house parties, river parties. There's also "The Square" or downtown San Marcos with a hookah bar, and clubs.

4 College Freshman

Academics: It Has Everything – I came to Texas State mostly for the location. Right by the outlet mall, the river, and in the middle of Austin and San Antonio. What more could a girl want! The reason I am still here is because of the professors who care, and make class interesting, the semi easy registration, and lots of help for our classes.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Could Be Way Better – dorms are tiny and kinda have an odd smell, some are way better, like blnaco (own personal bathroom) but some are bad

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: could be beter but way higher quality than high school cafeteria food.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: i always feel safe walking around at night. If you feel unsafe we have Bobcat Bobbies that will come and pick you up and take you to your dorm or a building.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Nothing Will Happen – The campus police don't do much. They go to the dorms if needed and ride around golf carts all day but never really do much

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
