Facilities: The river. Nothing else compares. It's one of the cleanest rivers in the world and stays at a constant 72 degrees which makes it quite fun to jump in regardless of time of year.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The campus is beautiful. Many people are initially worried about there being so many hills. But I have found it to be a good amount of daily cardio. The people are friendly. We all understand what we are dealing with at Texas State, which are the hills. If you embrace what the on campus life is all about then you will have a great time enjoying the parks and the river.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There are a lot of different places that you can get food, but it gets tiring to get the same food all the time.

Nightlife: Night life for 21+ is perfect because there are so many bars in the square (downtown) and it is right next to the campus. you can walk there and have a safe walk back home. I do not know a lot of 18+ places, except a hookah bar on the square as well. There are a lot of parties though, so you will easily find something going on.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Options for freshmen are awesome here! There are many different halls that can be perfect for someone and each hall always makes you feel welcome. The brand-new ones think they are better than everyone else, so I recommend the older ones. yes, it is not that fancy, but the people are so much more welcoming and friendly.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Texas State is pretty good. After the school has banned cigarettes on campus, people have been getting tickets for it on campus. Also, they are pretty strict with marijuana, but it just depends in what hall you stay in. Drinking is really big here since there is a lot of people that are in frats/sororities.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I never feel like my life or anyone's life has ever been in danger. Everything is real chill

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Almost everyone you see is involved in the Greek Life at Texas State but no one treats you differently if your not. It really does not matter if your in or not.

4 College Freshman

Weather: Weather is beautiful and when it rains there is usually a lot of buildings you can quickly run into and avoid the rain, there are also a lot of of trees that limit the amount you get poured on.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Very professional and nice, they make you feel super comfortable

3 College Sophomore

Weather: It is close to the river thus it is humid most of the time.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received an okay amount of financial aid. I had loan options, but I didn't take them. So, I'm left paying a little bit out of pocket. So, my aid covers half, if not a little more. The process is pretty easy.

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: There's pretty much always something going on. If you can't get into the bars on the square, there's plenty of frat parties you can get into. If the party scene isn't your thing, there's a hookah place and coffee shops open late.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: If you get caught, you can get a letter sent home, academic probation, fines, or expulsion depending on how serious the offense or number of times. Though, no one I know has been caught. Be smart about what you do. We are a smoke free campus, but I've never seen that enforced. I see people smoking all the time

4 College Freshman

Transportation: The bus system at Texas State is great. Busses arrive about every 10 minutes to each location and can take you wherever you need to go around campus. Also, Bobcat Bobbies is a nice edition to the transportation system. If you need somebody to pick you up late at night, this is a reall safe way to get where you need to go.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: While Texas State is a tobacco free campus and tobacco products are not allowed on campus, it is not uncommon to see cigarettes all around campus. This rule is poorly enforced. Drinking is a very popular activitiy at night and on the weekends and brings about quite a bit of peer pressure.

2 College Junior

Parking: Parking is pretty far away. You definitely get a work out if your a commuter. Commuter prices are decent but if you live on campus the prices are ridiculous

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are the occasional incidences but every student is notified right away of the problem and when it is resolved by email. I feel very safe

4 College Freshman

Facilities: kind of old school bathrooms.. always clean though

Facilities: Some of the facilities here at Texas State are dated and starting to show their age. They keep them cleaned but you can tell they need an update.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: There's a few good places to eat on campus. Jones Dining Hall has great food but you only get one meal and no refills on drinks, while Harris Dining Hall is a buffet where you can go back for more food and refills though with less quality than Jones. There's something for someone anywhere on campus.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: San Marcos is alright at best. The construction sucks right now so traffic tends to be bad and there's a lot of dust and noise. Austin and San Antonio are both less than an hour away so it's not too bad.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Bus/shuttle is okay at this school. Would recommend viewing the bus schedule prior to scheduling classes. Also, you can bring your car, but parking can become very difficult to find, even with a residential parking sticker.

3 College Junior

Transportation: i hate the fact that they make students pay if you want to go to austin but other than that transportation in san marcos is not too expensive

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: I love my dorm i think its very convenient the only thing i would change would be having a roomate. i love my own space

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
