4 College Freshman

Computers: I was expecting to have to carry my laptop all around campus, I was glad to see that I had no need to. The library has more than enough computers for the normal flow of students.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I barely hear any of drugs at the school. Alcohol is not very visible, its mostly just chatter.

Greek Life: I am a Non-Greek so I'm not really affected by them. they do however influence much of the activities here at Texas State.

4 College Freshman

Weather: This university is pretty close to home so the weather is not so different. I love the warm weather and short winters.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm still trying to finish my core at this point in time, however the workload so far has not been as heavy as I expected it to be.

Academics: The professors here at the school have been pretty awesome. It could just be my luck but I have not had a professor that I considered to be unfair or lazy. Most see, very passionate and interested into their field of study.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The school has met most of my expectations and I hope for my experiences here at Texas State to get even richer.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: At first, the food was awesome and it felt as if we had so many options to choose from. However, as the year progressed the food here began to feel repetitive and unappealing.

Campus Strictness: This school allows you to the things you want to do without going overboard. Yes, we are limited but not the extent that it would feel as if we were in high school.

Facilities: I love our schools recreational building. I feel like the rec center is very up to date and offers many programs to stay active. Another pretty awesome thing is the Christmas lights the school's organizations help set up at the park. It looks like something of the movies.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: I love this place at the lair where students can play pool and ping pong. It really makes it feel like college. There's also a room in which students can go in and just rest and sleep.

3 College Freshman

Nightlife: I'm currently not over the legal age of drinking and it seems as if drinking is the only thing there is to do in this city. Due to this fact I don't go out too often except for the occasional dinner and a movie.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never been concerned for my safety. Even on my walks from the library to my dorm at late hours.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: In my experience it has been a very confusing process. I did not get any financial aid this school year.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: I do not usually utilize the transportation offered here.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: I'm considered a minority, however, my feelings here do not reflect the statistics. Very diverse campus.

3 College Freshman

Weather: I'm from Texas, so I am used to the "bipolar" weather. It does not affect me much because I know I can't change it.

Local Atmosphere: There is definitely a bar/clubbing culture at Txstate

3 College Senior

Campus Dining: Pretty bland most of the time with many chain restaurants with few healthy options. Some dining halls have mediocre salad options

Diversity: There are many similar people on Texas State campus,

Parking: Usually the students' number 1 complaint is the parking. I have had a car since freshman year and have never bought a parking pass because of the ridiculous costs. I have always opted to park off campus very far away and walk and even then it is difficult to find a spot. I now live somewhat close to campus and always walk or bike.

4 College Senior

Majors: I really enjoy my majors and the classes I have taken. I wish the classes could have been smaller sometimes because there really are some fantastic teachers

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: I enjoy the area of San Marcos but sometimes does feel like a too-small-generic college town. Most students are forced to work in the Outlet malls and generally dislike it. Thankfully Austin is nearby with more opportunity for jobs and atmosphere

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of availability very close to campus but not of the best quality. And the higher quality housing is usually unreasonably priced

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: There is a lot of crime in the areas surrounding campus, we get many emails a semester notifying us of another rape or robbery. Generally I dont feel extremely safe at night in the area

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
