5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is very close and well priced. Lots if the places deliver since it's so close. We even have a subway that's 24 hours.

College Freshman

Drug Safety: My school is very anti alcohol and drugs. There are hardly any people who don't indulge OFF campus.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Students are very interactive and friendly. Ive met some of the nicest people. It's great meeting new friends.

College Freshman

Facilities: Texas State is the only school to produce a president AND Vice President, Lyndon B Johnson. It's really cool.

College Freshman

Transportation: I don't have a car and I look really forward to using the zipcars we have on campus. They're easily accessible and new.

4 College Freshman

Academics: All of my professors in my basic fire classes have been really reasonable and helpful with making sure every one understands what is going on.

4 College Freshman

Academics: There are lots of programs designed for any majors. There are always lots of workshops to help you with stress, work load, and even study habits and peer pressure.

College Freshman

Nightlife: The square is very close to campus. There are frat functions lots of days out of the week. Weekends are great to get out and relax. There are lots of bars, shops, and clubs in The Square which is literally a walking distance from campus. I've actually walked to a party there before.

College Freshman

Parking: The cost for a parking permit is totally outrageous. It is either $300 or $500. That's more than a car's monthly payment. The tickets are pretty cheap but still. If the permits weren't so expensive more people would definitely have them.

College Freshman

Scholarships: My mother was an extreme help with my financial aid. She has a keen eye such as I. She helped me in making sure everything went smoothly. There weren't any mix ups or anything.

College Freshman

Athletics: The football games are packed. Basketball games attendance depends. Intramural sports are pretty loud and rowdy as any other sport. My dorm is right by one of the fields. There's something for everyone. We even have yoga.

College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Girls will be girls. Not every female is the same and quite frankly impressions can be misleading. Some people are more difficult with making friends with order. Some are insecure while others are just plain mean or nice. Guys are good though. Difficult as ever.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: My school is very diverse. There are people who are from small towns like shiner all the way to Dallas, houston, austin, San Antonio, and even australia. It's really amazing to meet people from all over the world. There are Asians. I love the diversity.

Local Atmosphere: San Marcos is really close to the state capitol, Austin. That way, you're not far from the big city. However, San Marcos is home to plenty of regular restaurant establishments, stores, and is home of the premium outlets (which is great and I visit very often!)

Greek Life: Greek life doesn't really affect me directly. I focus mainly on my health, school work, work, and then social life-in that order. I really enjoy the campus life. There are lots of sororities but I'm not primarily interested. However, girls that I do know that have joined seems to really enjoy it.

Computers: Printing is free and there's computers available to use in almost every building. The computers are new and are touch screen also.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I have made great friends who share the same interest in engineering and sports.

Campus Strictness: They are very strict with underage drinking and visitation hours just depend on what dorm you live in.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Whenever a crime is committed, the student body and staff receive an email to their school account notifying them of what happened and if anyone has information to catch the perpetrators.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: During the week, everyone is wearing relaxing clothing such as basketball shorts for guys and leggings spandex for girls.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: You buy meal trades before the semester begins and that's what you use to pay for campus food. There's a lot to choose from, except on the weekends.

5 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: There is Division one sports in our university and intramural sports is great. Major cities like Austin and San Antonio are very close.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There's a chain of fast food places walking distance and you get what you pay for.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Everything you need is walking distance, the only time you need a vehicle is if you're driving to another city.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The bar/club is a great way to relieve stress from the workload of school. Parties start on Thursday and end on Sunday, and people attending them are very friendly.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
