Campus Housing: I didn't live on campus but I know people who have. They usually like it but do complain about how small they are. Though, I feel like for the most part, that the dorms are in walking distance but then again I didn't live on campus so I'm not a hundred percent sure.

Transportation: There are shuttles for students to get to and from school. The shuttles also stop near HEB so I have seen students go grocery shopping and use the shuttle.

Guys & Girls: Girls at TXST usually dress comfortably as in Nike shorts and t-shirts or leggings and oversized shirt. Guys typically wear jeans and a shirt. Unless you're going for a frat look which is Easter colored short shorts with an Easter color Polo.

Athletics: We could improve on our attendance at varsity level sports. We do at a nice Rec Center and within the Rec, there are so many different types of groups to join for example: yoga, zumba, boot camp, boxing, etc. And the Rec also provides students to sign up to personally train other students.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of chain restaurants within walking distance from campus and then in the square there are different no-so-chainy restaurants. For the most part they are pretty affordable for college students.

Scholarships: It's okay, financial aid. I could use more money, that's for sure but if you use FAFSA then you'll be fine. Just be sure to apply for it early and before the due date!

Weather: Well, when it rains, it rains! We get a lot of rain so rain boots and an umbrella is a must! But there are those months where it doesn't rain and it is just a hot Texas summer day and that is where the river comes in to place! It is considered unusual/weird if a student has never floated in their whole college experience. Floating the river is one of the biggest things at TXST!

Academics: I love my major, Applied Sociology. The sociology department has great professors and I always look forward to going to class regardless of which prof I have. The workload is not that bad and for my major (there are 2 types of Soci degrees) I have an internship once all my hours are completed.

Academics: There are a lot of different kinds of tutoring if one needs the help. You can find tutoring in the Library or in other places if your class/prof provides it, which most of the time they do.

2 College Senior

Parking: Parking is an issue because there are way too many students and not enough parking. Parking permits are super expensive.

3 College Senior

Nightlife: I don't really go out much but I do know frats host a lot of parties during the weekend, especially at the beginning of the semester for their rush. The square is practically walking distance from the campus. However, if you are underage then i wouldn't even try going to the square because they are super stick! That's why most underage students go to 6th street which is only like a 30 min drive.

Campus Strictness: I don't know much about our school police besides that they are sticklers on parking and are not afraid of giving people parking tickets!

4 College Senior

Facilities: There are a lot of different organizations, it's a great way to get involved. There are many programs that happen almost everyday and the school makes sure to keep you up to date with all the different events by emailing schedules.

4 College Senior

Facilities: There is Greek life, organizations with Greek letters (more like smaller sororities/frats that are concentrated on a certain topic. ex: religion, community service, social, etc.) organizations that aren't like frats, there's intramural sports for spring and fall, there's club teams which is a step above intramural and a step below varsity level. There is a river that goes through our campus and that is where everyone hangs out. You'll also find a lot of people at our rec center.

Overall Experience: I love my school. So much school pride from everyone and so many opportunities to get involved! A LOT of organizations to choose from, it's hard not to find one for you. I transferred into TXST and wish I had just came here my freshman year.

4 College Freshman

Computers: I was expecting to have to carry my laptop all around campus, I was glad to see that I had no need to. The library has more than enough computers for the normal flow of students.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I barely hear any of drugs at the school. Alcohol is not very visible, its mostly just chatter.

Greek Life: I am a Non-Greek so I'm not really affected by them. they do however influence much of the activities here at Texas State.

Weather: This university is pretty close to home so the weather is not so different. I love the warm weather and short winters.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm still trying to finish my core at this point in time, however the workload so far has not been as heavy as I expected it to be.

Academics: The professors here at the school have been pretty awesome. It could just be my luck but I have not had a professor that I considered to be unfair or lazy. Most see, very passionate and interested into their field of study.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The school has met most of my expectations and I hope for my experiences here at Texas State to get even richer.

3 College Freshman

Campus Dining: At first, the food was awesome and it felt as if we had so many options to choose from. However, as the year progressed the food here began to feel repetitive and unappealing.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: This school allows you to the things you want to do without going overboard. Yes, we are limited but not the extent that it would feel as if we were in high school.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: I love our schools recreational building. I feel like the rec center is very up to date and offers many programs to stay active. Another pretty awesome thing is the Christmas lights the school's organizations help set up at the park. It looks like something of the movies.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
