Nightlife: The nightlife here is pretty good. We have bars and places to go to down at the square.

Scholarships: Do the Work – There is financial aid avaliable, but be sure to complete FAFSA on time and read deadlines for university scholarships. Also, keep up GPA so you can qualify for more scholarships. It takes work, but it makes the difference.

Weather: Fun in the Sun – Since the school is located in Central Tx, it gets lots of sun, which is great for walking between classes or just going to the river or hanging out in the quad.

Drug Safety: Pretty much everybody does drugs, I mean it is a college campus. However, if that is not your thing it is easy to find the people who don't do them. I never really cared if my friends did drugs or not though. The cops know that almost everybody does drugs so watch out.

Local Atmosphere: Well, the high school kids that roam San Marcos thinking they are hot s*** are annoying. And the amount of locals that don't go to school and don't do anything but drink and work are embarrassing for the community. And the amount of people who think smoking pot makes them cool is annoying. However, the river is nice, but I wouldn't live here after graduating.

Computers: Computer Labs – The labs not located in the library are fantastic, never very busy and the best place to print during non-peak school hours. However, I love the library labs the most because there are so many resources to use besides what I can find online (which is normally not nearly as good as the print resources, fyi). However, between 10-4 the main floor is so busy. Painfully busy.

Transportation: I feel that the transportation is just fine. They provide us with free bus rides to get to school. The bus rides are not even long and are acurate at times.

Off-Campus Housing: I feel that there are a very good amount of apartments and houses close to campus. Even if they are not close Texas State provides busses that transports the students to campus.

Facilities: The facilities at Texas State include a recreation center. At the rec we have a very large workout area, six basketball courts which can also be volleyball courts, an indoor track, swimming pool, and various rooms for activities. LBJ is our student center and Alkek is our library. They both are large in size.

Academics: Popular Study Areas – There alot of places around campus to study, aside from our 7 story library. Even the outside areas are a good choice, not to mention the all night study rooms.

Parking: There isn't a lot of parking for the dorms, you have to walk to one of the parking garages. Visitor parking is also not that good.

Campus Housing: Dorm life isn't bad. You get sick of eating dining hall food all of the time but when you go home you appreciate home cooked meals more!

Health & Safety: There is not much crime on campus. As far as precautions on campus for safety there are many. Including Emergency button towers, Bobcat bobbies (a late night transport service) and lots of lights on campus.

Weather: It has snowed once and it hardly snows in this part of Texas so it was great. The weather is usually fresh and sunny.

Athletics: Tons of Team Spirit! Everyone wears Texas State t-shirts and is proud of it.

Guys & Girls: Great Variety, and Good Looking People – There are really good looking guys and girls. All types of social life at Texas State. There are cowboys, skaters and all types of races.

5 College Freshman

Nightlife: San Marcos is a very big party town. There is a downtown square not far from campus that gets pretty wild at night.

Guys & Girls: Social Life – Everyone gets along pretty well at Texas state. I mean its your basic Texas College.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: San Marcos is a smaller town but its full of excited college kids ready to have fun. The river runs right through campus and is the main entertainment in the summer time.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: well yu better be rich or poor. being in the middle sucks!

2 College Junior

Parking: parking sucks! real expensive for the options available

5 College Junior

Academics: ESS Pre-PT – considering im still working on basics it's chilling. But Everything seems fun and badass

Facilities: The Social Scene Is Amazing – My school is somewhat known for their academics. But what we're really known for is how sociable we are. The different types of organizations we have and all of social events we have give all of us an opportunity to meet someone new everyday.

2 College Junior

Drug Safety: Drinking Is Equal to Smoking – The drug scene at Texas State is widely known throughout the state of Texas. If you're not drinking, you're probably smoking.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Come to the Square – There are a lot of places to eat in San Marcos if you're not interested in eating on-campus. For instance, there are typical places such as Subway and Chipotle if you're in a rush. But I usually like to stick to local places. I really enjoy Valentino's Pizza. It's really good pizza with a n affordable price. Plus it's walking distance from school. I also like the Coffee Pot. It's a little bit pricier, but on certain days they give discounts. Also, if you show your student i.d., you'll also receive a 10% discount from your order.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
