3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: Seguin is a very small town, so to do anything you either have to drive to San Antonio, New Braunfels, or Austin. On campus are some recreational activities, but off campus there isnt too much. The campus is beautiful, but Seguin is kind of run down.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: Drug and alcohol use are allowed on campus.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: The food is alright, but there have been several occasions where students have gotten food poisoning from some of the chicken served on campus.

3 College Junior

Diversity: There is a quite a bit of diversity on campus, and I have never heard of any problems with discrimination towards different ethnic groups. The university is quite biased in its liberal political beliefs though. Religion on campus is completely diverse, from atheists to Christian to Muslim...etc.

Campus Housing: Most of the dorms have small closets. There are various styles of the dorm rooms.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Campus patrol do a great job 24/7 ensuring the safety of the campus.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The Whataburger is the best place to eat a solid meal. The cost of food around the campus is well priced.

4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Small Town Charm. Great People!

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Starting to build new buildings on campus (Freshman Dorm, and new football field).

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I'm just getting started, however the course and class structure is built for students to do well.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The school has a high placement rating for graduations students. I believe it's 85%.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The class size is small, so the professors really build a relationship with the students in a caring way.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm just getting started, however I've seen TLU go out of their way to ensure student success.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: It's a small town so there is not a lot of varity.

5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: It's a Christian School. People get along well....a majority of the students participate in a Varsity Sport.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Private schools are pretty expensive. I wish there were more grants based on debt to income ratio, rather than how much money your parents make.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Every place in the world has rules and laws. TLU is no different.

4 College Freshman

Campus Dining: Great Varity...All you can eat.

Greek Life: I'm not part of Greek life. I chose not to join in because I see them as "gangs". Some Greeks get along and some don't. They all segregate each other and I choose to not be part of that. There are no Greek housing available although some Greeks do get their own house or apartment off campus.

Scholarships: The financial aid process is easier than ever. They have limited the paper work load they used to have students fill out since they have it online now. It is super easy to get the whole process done as long as you stay on top of things and the receptionist at the financial aid office is always happy to help. I completed my FAFSA with her and it literally took 5 minutes! TLU also provides numerous amounts of scholarships. TLU provided me an extra scholarship when I was at risk of not coming back because the lack of my parents financial support. They will work with you as long as you show the need and that you're succeeding academically.

Local Atmosphere: I love Seguin! Coming from Austin, I realized that people in Seguin are much more nicer and welcoming. It's a great town to live in because everything you need is at a short distance which is very convenient as a college student. There isn't much to do during weekends besides going to Walmart but there are other bigger cities near by that are other options for the night life.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: On campus housing is just okay. The dorms are in good condition but the apartments need some serious renovations for the price they charge the students. The social atmosphere is a little noisy in the dorms compared to the apartments. The only great thing about living on campus is that everything is accessible on campus at any given time.

College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: I have never lived off campus. I'm going on to my 3rd year here at TLU and I lived on campus the whole time. I just prefer to on campus since it's most convenient to me although the prices keep raising each year.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: Seguin is not the safest town to live in but when at TLU it's almost as if you're in another place because it's so calm, quiet and safe. It's extremely rare to hear about a crime that went on campus. Campus police responds very quickly when needed and are very friendly too.

5 College Junior

Academics: I love the academics at TLU. The workload is doable as long as you balance your schedule carefully. I keep a planner for all of my assignments and I get to finish everything that is assigned in a timely manner. Even when I have a hard time completing an assignment, I can always count on my professors during their office hours. I also appreciate the study facilities that are offered because no matter what time it is there's always a nice quiet spot for me to study.

Most people who first look at this small school have doubts about its overall size. But it is not about the buildings or the square footage of campus that's important: it's the people. TLU's slogan is, "Small Classes, Big Difference." This is very true. Students have a lot of interaction with professors, and the one-on-one attention is key. Getting to know professors helps light a fire for many students because they want to be the best they can be for the professors. Many students say that TLU helped them realize what they're interested in, what they enjoy learning, and what they want to do with their life. As a small private school, TLU doesn't have the same bells and whistles as a lot of large, state-funded schools, but TLU has an atmosphere that makes students feel right at home.

This is a small school, so if you come in with the wrong attitude, you will obviously leave with one. With a positive attitude, most students leave with a solid educational foundation and a solid social circle. And, just like at any school, there will be immature students and students whose minds have not yet left the world of high school, but stupidity is everywhere, and if you use that as evidence against any prospective school, you will be sorely depressed. TLU is truly a great place where good things happen.
