College Sophomore

Nightlife: Not sure...clubs are good though.

Nightlife: Northgate and Harry's are very popular places to be on Thursday and Saturday nights. Whether you like the bar/club scene or want to go country dancing, there is something for everyone.

Nightlife: The parties here are unimpressive and usually consist of people hanging out with their usual old high school clique, if you like the same atmosphere everywhere then this is your place. Northgate is the best thing for night life, except that it's small and no in any way shape or form diverse. Country dancing is the most original thing offered here for night life, and even that is lame. If you wanna party go to Austin and live it up on 6th street or any street really.

Nightlife: You can find a good time if you try

Nightlife: Nightlife is really fun at A&M, there's always something going on with the Fraternities and at Northgate. Transportation is also really awesome, we have an amazing program called Carpool that allows you to be picked up charge-free from anywhere and be brought back home after a party by volunteers with the program. It's designed to keep drunk drivers off the roads.

During the day, you will see A&M students busy with classes and studying, but once the moon goes up, it’s a different story. Northgate, located just across University Drive on the north side of campus, is the most popular night-time hangout spot for Aggies—the area has plenty of bars and restaurants. Besides Northgate, there are some popular country western places, such as Harry’s and the Hall, but there are not many other types of clubs. At A&M, it’s all about the two-step, since the preferred type of music is country (remember, this is the Deep South!).

No matter how long you’ve been here, there’s always something new and fun to do, and there’s plenty of debauchery to participate in. If you do start to get bored, though, you can broaden your horizons and check out the nightlife in Houston or Austin. These cities aren’t too far away, and they offer a world of possibilities outside College Station. Regardless of where you prefer to go out, just do yourself a favor and don’t schedule an 8 a.m. class on Friday mornings because at A&M, the weekend starts on Thursday nights.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Hurricane Harry's

Harry's, a country western bar with nightly drink specials and dancing, is right next to campus, down the street from Northgate. The most popular night there is Thursdays. Harry's is close to IHOP, so a lot of people eat there after Harry's closes to sober up and wrap up their evening.

(979) 846-1724

Salty Dog

Salty Dog is one of the popular non-Northgate bars. It's just a normal bar with good drink specials-usually $1 wells and $1 Jello shots. There's an upstairs place to sit and chill, and the bar downstairs is cool, as well. Dress is casual.

4353 Welborn Rd.

(979) 268-4353

The Tap

A popular sorority/fraternity hangout, the Tap is a sports bar with nightly drink specials and occasional live entertainment. The Tap has hundreds of beers on tap and a patio that's a nice place to hang out if it gets too loud inside. Baseball hats are welcome.

815 Harvey Rd.

(979) 696-5570

Big Pauly's

A bar and music venue, Big Pauly's features weekly musical events, both live music and DJs. The place may seem small and somewhat cramped during bigger shows, but this just adds to the personal atmosphere. The cover charge varies depending upon the size of the event, so check beforehand.

(979) 846-2469

Dixie Chicken

Located in Northgate, Dixie Chicken is a popular bar and restaurant. Burgers are cheap, and the beer is always on tap. There are pool tables and a good atmosphere. Baseball and cowboy hats welcome.

307 University Dr.

(979) 846-2322

Fox and Hound

This pub has a restaurant, bar, pool tables, and several big-screen TVs. It also serves great wings and frozen drinks. Many people dress up to go here.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

Underage students can study, play pool, go to the park, participate in ice blocking, attend athletic events, go to Hurricane Harry's (it's 18-and-over), hang at Sweet Eugene's coffee shop, go to concerts at Wolf Pen Creek Amphitheater, chill at Lake Bryan, or go mountain biking. They can also go to the movies, check out an art gallery, take Aggie Wrangler lessons (country-western dance), drive or walk through Santa's Wonderland, knock down some pins at Wolf Pen Bowling Center, go mini-golfing, or, if they have absolutely nothing to do, cow-tipping.
