Nightlife: There are only limited parties available and no bigger options available.

College Student

Nightlife: Not being a party person, I am not aware of the night life here. The one or two parties I have been to have all been dry, and there are plenty of other things to do on campus and plenty other events to attend. No one pressures you to go to parties. People don't generally push you into doing things and respect that you aren't a party person.

Nightlife: There are no bars in Swarthmore. The free alcohol at the school parties just gives people a disincentive to go to good parties at other schools. You'll see the same people at every single party sticking with their same friends. Lax bros at swat like to pretend to be real athletes but they're posers.

Nightlife: Swattie, Wanna Get Down? Oh parties at Swat. You have high expectations coming in, but honestly the parties here tend to be repetitive. Free booze and decent music is what you get at Paces or the Frats. But honestly, it's fun going out to them especially once you establish a good group of friends to go out with. Although you will find yourself complaining that there is nothing to do on a Friday night, you'll come to realize that you gotta use that intelligence that you got you in to Swarthmore in the first place in order to have a good time.

Nightlife: There Are Parties Every Weekend but No One Is Obligated to Attend – Swarthmore parties are mostly centered on drinking but you are not forced to drink and can have fun without consuming alcohol if you have friends who will do the same.

Nightlife at Swarthmore is mainly limited to on-campus activities, mostly because the SEPTA trains only run until 11:30 p.m., so getting back to campus without a car can be either treacherous (69th Bus Terminal) or expensive (Philly cabs). Those who do choose to venture off campus tend to be upperclassmen who are generally 21+ and bored with the lack of variety on campus.

On campus, Paces is usually the place to be. Alcohol is free at all Student Activities Committee (SAC) parties, and parties at the frat houses occur almost every weekend, as well. One tip: When planning your social activities at Swat, it’s a good idea to party hop because if you limit your plans to one specific place, it is quite possible that particular party will turn out to be a dud because parties here can range from “quite awesome” to “some-drunken-kid-doing-the-robot-all-by-himself-on-the-dance-floor.” Although Swarthmore may have the best party scene of the Tri-Co family of colleges due to the relaxed Public Safety policy, don't forget to visit Bryn Mawr or Haverford also, and if you can, head to University of Pennsylvania, Villanova, or any of the other bigger colleges in the area for larger parties.
