Student Body: The best word to describe the students at my school is uninvolved. Most of the students are there to learn, and go home. There aren't many activities for students, so there isn't much interaction between us. Occasionally I'll see a friend of mine and say "hello," but for the most part the students stay to themselves. I don't think I fit in very well at my school. The majority of people who go there are older than I am. The people who are my age aren't really interested in the things I'm interested in, which makes it harder to get to know people.

Campus Resources: The library is set up well. There is a large variety of books available for students to use. They also have popular movies and audiobooks. Computers are set up throughout the library to provide students with internet access. You have to pay to print anything in the library. There aren't very many campus activities available to students. When activities are scheduled, it's hard to find out about them. Communication between the school and students isn't great. It's hard to find out information, even when you ask a teacher.

Campus Resources: There are many computer labs available throughout the school. Computers are in almost every building. Printing on campus is great, if you can find a teacher to let you print in their room. Then you can print for free. Otherwise, you have to print from the library, or a public printer, which costs money. That's the worst thing about paying to print is that you have to make an account and set it up to a debit or credit card. The network is normally pretty reliable; however, it does run slow most of the time.

Academic Flexibility: When I first started at Surry Community College, I had a difficult time scheduling my classes. It's gotten easier with time and I find it very simple now. I like how easy it is to schedule classes. The only problem I have with scheduling is that we have to meet with our advisor to get them to unlock the system for us. It's hard to do that since my advisor has class most of the day and is rarely there when I get out of class. When I went to her and told her I was wanting to transfer, she seemed annoyed by me. Since then, I haven't wanted to talk to her. I've found someone else to advise me instead of her. I haven't had to transfer any credits yet because I'm a first year student and I'm waiting to transfer to a university.

Online Courses: I've taken three online courses while being at Surry. I took a college success class that I feel really helped me to be a more successful college student. The work load was light and I never felt overwhelmed. I also took an English class, expository writing. That class was very challenging. Many weeks I would have three 4-5 page papers due. The work load was extremely heavy, but I did feel like I learned a lot. Finally, I'm taking ethics now. The professor I have for ethics is very easy going. The work load is light and I feel like I've learned quite a bit.

Facilities: I thought I wanted to go here because it's close to home, so I could go to and from school without having to move out and pay as much money for my degree as I would have to do at a university. I like my school, but there isn't really a sense of community. There aren't many activities for students to do and communication is not great between the school and the students. It's hard to get involved at my school because there just isn't a lot there. The teachers are friendly and generally don't give too much work. They try to help you if you don't understand something. The facilities are being improved, but not the parts where students go. The parts undergoing construction is mostly business and office space for the staff. I wish they could improve the buildings students have class in. The buildings are pretty old and not very upgraded. I suppose for the price, it's a good school. I've learned a lot being there, I'm just ready to move onto a new school.

Career Services: Personally, I haven't experienced the Career Services Center at my school; however, I do know of a few people who used the Career Services Center to help find jobs. Several people that I know have gotten jobs straight out of school because of the Career Services Center. In the Career Services Center, they focus on building a quality resume, cover letter, preparing you for interviews, and applying for jobs in your field. Overall I think Surry Community College has a good Career Services Center for the community.

Overall Experience: Im very happy about my choice of school. It is not the most impressive school I could have gone to. It did save me money, I am in a familiar environment, and I am doing great in school as well as having a job. I am very glad I decided to go there.

Tuition & Financial Aid: I believe that the school is great for teaching students what they need to know. I personally do not have financial aid, I don't think I would get it if I applied. It would help a lot though.

Campus Resources: There are computer labs, libraries, student centers, and some gym classes. However, since this is a community college they are not quite as big as other schools. They are great for students who need them.

4 College Junior

Campus Resources: There is access to the internet, printers, and a computer almost everywhere. They put laptops in most of their classrooms for use by students. They also allow students access to a computer lab. There are never any problems with the wifi. The students are allowed to bring personal computers but they are never needed.

Facilities: I really think our teachers are what set us apart the most. You can tell the teachers care. They go out of their way to help the students in every possible way. They take time to meet with students before scheduling classes. They will also give students tips for studying. They are a very caring staff.

Academic Experience: The teachers take time to meet with students before they schedule their classes, they try to help the students in every way possible. It has been a great experience.

Academic Experience: There are more programs which can be offered, but they are not expected of a community college. I am a personal fan of music. I enjoy marching and concert band very much. I would love to continue playing.

Academic Flexibility: I have had time to work and spend time with my family as well as complete my homework. I have not had many problems.

3 College Junior

Career Services: I don't know much about it. I have asked questions and have been given great answers though.

Online Courses: Online classes are not my personal favorite, Im more of an in class person.

Student Body: Instructors are well educated and are interested in providing the best skills to the students. I have enjoyed attending Surry Community College, Dobson, North Carolina. There is alot to do there. The food they serve is healthy. There is enough parking space for attendances.

Online Courses: I still do not enjoy the experience of online learning. I would much rather be sitting in a classroom and actually hear a lecture from the teacher. I'm more of a visual learner. It is fairly easy, but again, I do prefer sitting in a classroom.
