There’s always something to do in Albany, whether it’s Thirsty Thursday at the Abbott or a kegger on Hudson Street—you’ll never run out of options for the night ahead. Although the bars in Albany used to be very popular, the cops have really cracked down on underage drinking. So unless you have decent fake IDs or are actually 21 years of age, don’t expect to be hanging around bars much. Clubs such as Valentine’s are popular for the older crowd, as they’re just as strict as the bars. For the younger student body, house parties are the most common and the most fun. From Greek life paint parties to small get-togethers at your friends' apartment, you’ll never see a house without crushed red cups and loud kids running around it.

If this type of nightlife doesn’t interest you, the University has Danes After Dark, a program that offers alternative activities such as billiards, foosball, and video games for the weekends. This is a way for students to mingle and socialize without the wild downtown scene.

Organization Parties
Many of the fraternities and sororities will rent out a bar for the night and throw mixers to raise money for their specific organization. This can be a good time, if you know someone who's throwing the party. However, these parties tend to be full of cliques.
