3 College Senior

Transportation: We have a bus that goes around town. We also have taxis. I have a car, but things are accessible via foot.

Transportation: Its very easy to get down to New York City from New Paltz as well as Long Island, where many students are from. There is a Trailways station in town at an easy walking distance from campus. The bus also makes rounds on campus to pick up students from different residence halls so they don't even need to walk to town. They have student discounts too. Trains can be caught in Poughkeepsie, about a 30 minute car ride away.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Everything is within walking distance. I took the shuttle once to the train station and it was free for students.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: You can definitely walk around campus with ease. The loop is free if you want to get to town, however it is limited during the winter season.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: The "Loop" shuttle bus doesn't come very often and the schedule isn't accurate. However it is free for students. The "Link" bus takes you to Poughkeepsie for free too which is another good thing.

Transportation on campus is pretty easy. The New Paltz Loop is a free shuttle for students, faculty, and staff that makes dozens of trips around campus and town each day (until 10 p.m.). Just show your student ID and you can ride!

If you'd like to travel outside of the New Paltz area, the Ulster County Area Transit (UCAT) is probably your best bet. It's $1 to board and 25 cents for each additional zone. There are also several inexpensive taxi services around New Paltz. Most drivers will charge less than $5 for a local trip. Students traveling down to NYC or Long Island hit up the New York Trailways bus station, which is located right off campus. Students get discounted bus fares.
