Local Atmosphere: New paltz is a hippy town. If you're in to that than you'll love it. Also if you're in to hiking and being out doors there are a lot of great options

Local Atmosphere: The town has plenty of things to do. Mohonk mountian house, lake minnewaska and high falls are within 15 minutes of campus. They have hiking, swimming, and preserves. The scenery is gorgeous in the spring and fall. Everyone is friendly. There are a lot of hippies but it gives the school character. Everyone loves to be outside in the spring and fall.

One of the best parts of SUNY New Paltz is the town. The Village of New Paltz is located about two blocks away from campus. It's a pretty incredible place; there are cool music venues, tons of restaurants, and the people are progressive and laid-back.

The natural scenery is also great. The Wallkill River runs through the town, and one can hike along the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. Plus, the beautiful Shawangunk Mountains are fully visible from both town and campus.
