College Junior

Health & Safety: I live off campus, and I'll only be transferring to the college in the fall. I have been on campus a few times and it seems like a very safe and clean environment.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: they always help if you need

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Campus police are there if you need them. The town is very very safe, and if I HAVE to walk alone at night I don't feel too nervous about it. During the day there is nothing to worry about ever.

4 College Student

Health & Safety: I've had no problems with the system.

4 College Freshman

Students feel safe at New Paltz, even when they are walking alone at night. Police cars constantly patrol campus and town. Crimes of any kind are rare, but the University alerts students immediately through email and/or text notification when a crime has been committed. This is also how students find out about school closings and snow days.

One great NP safety feature is the campus escort service, which runs all night. All you have to do is call the designated number, and someone will come and drive you where you want to go. All residence halls are locked to outsiders. When guests enter the building after 11 p.m., there are night hosts who ensure that guests sign in. Overall, New Paltz is really safe.
