Local Atmosphere: Dirty, old, crime ridden city. Stay in the good parts of town- OUT OF THORNDEN PARK unless you want to get mugged, happens pretty much weekly when the weather is nice and people go to the park by themselves at like 2am. Great dining in the nicer parts of town (PASTABILITIES!). Destiny USA right close by. If you like city life, then it'll be great. If you prefer a more rural setting, get off campus housing and have a car so you can get out to Tully or some place away from the city to go fishing or hiking.

Local Atmosphere: My college is located in the University Hill area of Syracuse, New York, immediately adjacent to Syracuse University. From the professors to all of the undergraduate and graduate students, everyone I've met here has been wonderful. The upperclassmen do their best to make the underclassmen feel welcome and respected, and we have frequent and friendly interactions with the SU students. There is always something to do in the area, with the plethora of shops and boutiques that line the border of the Syracuse University campus. Even if you don't feel like leaving campus, there is always something going on, whether it be an event planned by one of our school's clubs, or by the faculty at our school. Overall, I have a blast going here, and never have I had any less-than-delightful experiences since I arrived.

College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: I stay within the college so far.

College Senior

Local Atmosphere: I am a non-traditional student at SUNY ESF, I am married and have a child. I do not enjoy much nightlife in the area, but have heard that the bars and clubs are pretty fun and are not too far from campus. Syracuse has some really nice local shops that are geared towards college students. Syracuse University is literally right next to ESF campus and students often intermingle since ESF students may take classes at SU. SU football and basketball games are huge local attractions and are loved by many students, they are always fun to partake in.

Local Atmosphere: Syracuse downtown and the Syracuse university hill area each have different atmospheres. Marshall street is the university's greatest cultural asset, while Armory Square is downtowns'. I always make an effort to go out a couple times a week. There's also a ton of events at the Carrier Dome, Landmark Theatre, Westcott Theatre, and the On Center.
