4 College Senior

Health & Safety: The university is small and everyone seems to know each other. The sense of community is really great. The only concerns I have are that I've heard of a few people getting mugged or houses broken into.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Although I rarely see the campus police, I know they're nearby and accessible. Being such a small community, the amount of inter-campus support and protection is strong, and ESF kids are always willing to help each other. The blue light system makes me feel very safe. Beyond the campus, however, is a somewhat different story. It is unwise to venture beyond the overpass or into Thornden Park at night, because there are frequent muggings there.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: DPS is always on campus, they are everywhere on weekends, on campus and off. There is some crime off campus, but it's almost always involves someone not using common sense and being alone after dark. Blue lights are on various spots on campus.

Health & Safety: It's Tricky With SU Nearby – When on the ESF campus, you feel like you are in a large family. Everyone knows each other or have seen each other, which greatly dissipates most crime on campus. Since ESF borders Syracuse University, it is difficult to be safe when traveling through the campus at night. There are blue lights available to press when you are in trouble to alert the campus police, but the amount of drunken college kids on the weekends by Greek Life and the Carrier Dome is intimidating. There have been many incidents where I have been harassed by drunken men or shoved on the bus by drunken females. Travel with a buddy and you should be just fine.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: Special Security Measures – The campus of ESF makes me feel really sure because of the special security mesures they take. There is a guard located at the entrance of the campus that you have to go through to get into the campus. If you are not a student you must state why you are coming to the campus and how long you plan to be there for.
