Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Binghamton doesn't require transfer students to send in test scores.
  • Binghamton seems to spend most of its efforts in looking for students that are adept at multitasking. Students that come to college that already have the ability to take on multiple projects at once are an asset to any school.
  • Having a letter of reference isn't mandatory for admission, but having one could add a lot more definition and make it a more personalized application.
  • Interviews are not required for the admissions process. Although certain performance majors require auditions in order to gain acceptance into their programs.
  • It's extremely helpful to have an admissions essay advised several times before sending it in. Fresh eyes can do a lot for catching missed mistakes.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • A lot of the food is easy to steal from the dining halls.
  • Don't buy school books from the University bookstore. Either order or rent them online from Amazon or websites like bookrenter.com or chegg.com. If you need to buy books locally, then buy them at Mando books, Barnes & Noble, or River Reed Books.
  • How to drive around a rotary
  • Newing can get very loud.
  • Pack for every possible kind of weather and bring multiple umbrellas.
  • Sneaking a car to campus freshman year is very convenient.
  • TAs and professors don't always speak English.
  • The meaning of cold
  • The parking is terrible.
  • Using the bus to go grocery shopping is a huge hassle. Everything must be carried on the bus and back to the dorms.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Interviews are not typically required for admission into Binghamton University, as either an incoming freshman or transfer student. Information sessions can always be scheduled by contacting the Admissions office if there are any questions that need to be answered about the application or admission process. Scheduled information sessions last between 30 and 40 minutes. They are followed by a student-guided tour and are generally held between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Monday through Friday any time during the year (except on holidays, during finals, and during spring break).
Campus Tours
Information sessions followed by student-guided tours are generally held between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on various dates throughout the school year. You can check out the available dates and register for a session online or call (607) 777-2171. Self-guided walking tours, which include an opportunity to speak with an admissions counselor, are also available. No registration is required for a self-guided walking tour, but check the website for available dates.
Overnight Visits
If an overnight visit to Binghamton is needed, then there are plenty of hotels at which to stay in the area. There are special visiting weekends during the fall and spring semesters for prospective students and parents that want a more in-depth look at Binghamton's campus, student life, and academics.
