The atmosphere around the two campuses is quiet for the most part, but it's a short drive from the city of Baltimore, where there is always something happening. The University is also within 30 minutes of several other schools. The closest schools are Goucher College, Towson University, the University of Maryland–Baltimore County, Loyola College, Johns Hopkins University, the Community College of Baltimore County, and Baltimore City Community College. Stevenson University primarily interacts with students from the University of Maryland–Baltimore County and Towson University. The schools have no significant rivalries and often work together to provide services such as inter-school library book loans.
The University is surrounded with lots of places to see and things to do. Every chain imaginable is within a five-minute car ride from the Owings Mills campus. And yet, there are also many escapes into nature available, including a reservoir and several hiking trails in the area. From the city atmosphere to the serene state parks, Stevenson University is near anything a student could want. The area is generally safe, especially near the Greensping Campus, which is nestled in the woods. There are no areas to avoid around campus, although students are always advised to use common sense in Baltimore.
