3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: First-years get the best financial aid packages. No one tells you that after your first year, your aid goes down significantly. One of my grants turned into a loan, tripling my loan amount from the previous year. There are scholarships if you apply for them, and the FA office tends to be understanding, but the advisers are not very helpful. You have to fight to get all the money you can, because SMU, although wealthy, tends to be stingy with her funds in this sense.

Scholarships: I have gotten excellent grants from SMU and they automatically accept scholarships for you so you don't forget!

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: A lot of people are on some financial aid. Some is need based (who can't afford 60k a year am I right?), but most is merit based. You have to apply for some and do interviews and such. The best one in my opinion is the BBA scholars deal. You get into the business school immediately and don't have to stress over getting high enough grades to get in. If you aren't on any financial aid, such as myself, you might feel a little underappreciated when all the various scholars get to go to special events, meet George Bush, get free dinners etc. (My dad gives this school way more money than theirs do, where's my free luncheon?).
