College Sophomore

Campus Housing: There's a full spectrum of housing quality on campus. The newest however, are like a luxury hotel. These are usually reserved for freshmen and their Community Advisors. The oldest dorms are extremely austere and outdated. International students and stoners usually live here. There are a few mid-quality dorms that are comfortable, but still on the austere side. Community kitchens, laundry, and common spaces are about the same quality as the rest of the facility. The newest dorms have kitchens and common spaces that look like an upper-middle class living room, whereas the old ones are practically defunct.

Nightlife: There isn't a lot to do aside from drinking at the three or four bars on Main St or the periodical parties on campus

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Most of the students here are conservative so very few students get drunk. Not much drug use or danger.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There is no crime at all. The streets can be empty but totally safe. Many students even return past 12 at night and there hasn't been any news of crime nearby the university.

Local Atmosphere: The temperature goes below 20 so not fun during the spring semester. But during the fall there are parks inside brookings. The Mount Rushmore is in South Dakota so maybe pay a visit. The nearest Shopping Mall is 45 mins drive from here. The local people treat very good to students.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There are always athletics activities going on in the school. There is a football stadium, arena, Wellness Center with wall climbing and huge outdoor track and ground.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I can say that Greek life is just okay here. No special conditions for Greek students.

4 College Freshman

Majors: There are a lot of opportunities for Ag, Food, Bio and Engineering majors. There are job fairs during every semester and companies are generally taking most students for internships and job. That is one of the reasons I'm staying in this university.

4 College Freshman

Majors: There are a lot of job opportunities in SDSU. I'm am a freshman and currently involved in a research program. Internships can be easily found here. My career goal is to be a designing engineer in a manufacturing company. As per my future, there are many agriculture based companies which are looking for engineers.

Campus Strictness: Underage drinking is very strict in Brookings. But visiting, classes parking are great!

2 College Freshman

Nightlife: There is only one bar which has underage parties, but only during the three day weekend. During the Fall semester, many people have house parties, but during the spring its mostly cold below 20.

3 College Junior

Computers: I feel you need a computer to succeed here but SDSU does offer a vast variety of computer labs for students.

2 College Junior

Transportation: They need to offer more options to students especially to those living off campus.

3 College Junior

Athletics: We need to invest in new facilities for our athletes but it is a working process. SDSU is changing that and we are all very excited.

3 College Junior

Campus Strictness: I think parking is a huge issue. They sell more parking permits than spots available and have yet to build a parking ramp. SDSU really need to find better options for parking

2 College Sophomore

Transportation: Theres a beta bus? I don't even know what that is honestly I've just heard people talk about it.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I just stumbled upon an apartment, the only thing I know of that helps students find off campus housing is the off campus housing fair.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Even though McDonald's is less than a block off campus they don't accept hobo dough. Everything else in town is pretty average and most places do accept hobo dough which is very convenient and much appreciated.

2 College Sophomore

Nightlife: You're sol if you want to drink and you're not 21. The cops have nothing better to do that drive around and bust every party there is and give out as many minors as possible. You would think they would be a little more lenient in a college town but like I said the town isn't big enough and they have nothing else to do.

2 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This is a HUGE commuter school and the social scene consists of farm boys and athletes. The weekends are completely empty because everyone goes home. For the few of us who live on campus and have a real college experience it can get pretty lonely at times. If I could do it over I would go somewhere where I could get a sort of culture shock. The school and programs are great, it's just not the right fit for me.

Computers: I've personally never had trouble with the wifi but I know others from different dorms who have had major trouble with it. The technology in our computer labs are terrible, old computers and software.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I really have no idea about the Greek life here at SDSU, so I can only assume it's not that great. I have a few fellow students who are in the Greek system but from what I have seen it's just a bunch of charity work and community work

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I haven't really gotten into the main courses for my major yet, but if I could do it over I would pick something that was more interesting to me.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: The professors are nice and the program is good (I think) compared to most other schools my size in this area.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: There are a few specific CA's who make life hell for residents. Otherwise most of them are easy to get along with and friendly.
