Computers: Sometimes the computers in the library are crowded but you can rent laptops. You get a certain amount of printing money each semester but I usually do not use it all. The wireless internet is pretty good now that they switched it.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It's safe and in the country area. There are things to do but you have to drive about 20 minutes if you want to do something more exciting and go shopping. Overall it is a really nice place and I enjoy it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: They are sometimes overly strict. Also there are some people that ruin it for others and cause problems that are not needed which causes more meetings.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: The parties are pretty fun. Sometimes you have to know people.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: It was pretty simple but make sure you are involved

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I love my program but it does take a lot of work

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: I like Weisenfluh but it doesn't use meal swipes

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Everyone is pretty accepting here.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: Therapeutic Recreation is a great program here

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: The campus has a bus that goes around campus and to the Giant Eagle during the week and one that will drive students to off campus housing during the weekends but if you need to go to Pittsburgh or The Outlet mall you need a car.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: The drug and alcohol scene isn't that dominant around campus. If you don't go to parties, you'll be bored but no one will judgw you for it.

4 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The people are very kind and generous, though there is nothing to do around campus besides party. The town surrounding campus is cute and thrives off the university being here. Shopping isn't far, but if you don't have a car or know someone that does your college experience will be very poor.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: For starters the walls are paper thin and the paint on them is poor quality. With that being said the rooms are spacious and it's easy to get a room during the lottery process. The dorms are extremely expensive and as nice as they should be for what students pay for them.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I just switched my major to Communications so I am unsure of my outlook towards this specific program.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I am a fresh Communications major so I can not give a clear answer on my feelings towards it as of this moment.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I feel pretty safe but will not walk alone at night

3 College Sophomore

Nightlife: There really isn't much to do around campus if you aren't into the party scene, which is why most kids go to parties. There's a pub and bar on the main street and bowling but that is about it for nightlife

1 College Sophomore

Weather: The rain and snow makes it hard when walking to class

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: The police and CA's are very helpful and protecting

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There are varies places to rent and live off campus. Generally the pricing is extremely cheap compared to the cost of living on campus. It's easy to find an apartment, though the affordable ones are not usually furnished, the quality of each is standard.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Not to say we go free of crime or violence but the campus provides round the clock security as well as emergency buttons throughout the campus. The dorms are secure and on average the people are safe.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Some places are reasonable but they are very nice.

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: Each and every person I have come in contact with is different than the last. Luckily we all fit together and have created a bond throughout campus. Slippery Rock students have each others backs and an understanding of all of our differences. Religious, sexual, or racial diversity is never an issue here, everyone has an extreme level of comfort and acceptance.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: It's a very easy process just make sure you ask questions.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: When it rains it pours! The snow can be pretty wicked as well, but when the weather is nice the entire campus is glorious.

Picking a college is a tough decision and nobody expects you to have your whole life charted out upon high school graduation. Fortunately, Slippery Rock can help you find yourself by exposing you to a laundry list of opportunities and organizations. Sure, students gripe about Weisenfluh food, the miserable weather, and the Ticket Nazi, but SRU students are in it together. Here, you are not treated as a number, but, in many cases, as a family member. Most students agree that the people are what make this place. You will not only make lifelong friendships and connections with fellow students but with professors and local townspeople, as well. It is highly difficult to find a school where professors sincerely care about you, and not just about their research and side projects.

In recent years, Slippery Rock has been trying to overcome the party school stigma that has overshadowed its sophisticated academic programs. Known for many programs, including education, physical therapy, and parks and recreational management, Slippery Rock offers high quality at a low price. Remember that a well-rounded education does not have to translate into millions of dollars in student debt. It is highly recommended that before you commit yourself to any school, visit the campus and see if it feels right. Though some schools look terrific on paper, you may be disappointed upon arrival. Slippery Rock offers something for everyone, and it’s highly recommended that you get involved and make the most of your time here. At Slippery Rock, we play hard, we work hard, and most agree that they would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Go Rock!
