Overall Experience: It depends on the major. Some are absolutely wonderful, some aren't. Like any university.

4 Recent Alumnus

Overall Experience: Great networking opportunities, not sure students take full advantage of what is offered. Degrees are great at preparing you for your career.

3 Recent Alumnus

Campus Strictness: On campus alcohol is not permitted, and frowned upon. Rules are upheld on campus.

2 Recent Alumnus

Scholarships: I get minimal financial aid, and the office is not helpful

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: Choose from old style dorms or the new style. The new can even have half kitcehnettes. The rooms are beyond nice, mini fridges, private bathrooms. A DREAM. On campus apartments available too.

4 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: Theres a womens center for support, and the health center is great about having a group called PEER educators to help with sex ed and they provide condoms, knowledge and support.

3 Recent Alumnus

Nightlife: Theres not many places to go, so when you find something fun, its packed. Whether that be the bar (one and only) or a good party.

4 Recent Alumnus

Local Atmosphere: I love the small town of slippery rock. Local businesses and small atmosphere, its nice. the outlets being fifteen minutes away are nice too.

3 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: Theres a huge variety. Its all about searching to find your niche. Many students into partying because theres not much to do. But if youre not a partyer, theres tons of people who don't. And lots of commuters.

3 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: Greeks and non greeks are two separate entities. But those who are in it love it, and those who aren't love not being apart of it

4 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: A lot of people complain, but the local food is great. And if that's not good enough, there butler and grove city close by with more options .There should be more late night food though, one downfall.

3 Recent Alumnus

Diversity: There are many diversity groups on campus, including LGBTQ groups. SRU is about building bridges and everyone being as one, getting people involved.

3 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: Sports are popular to attend and play. It is exciting to get involved, highly recommended.

3 Recent Alumnus

Facilities: There are a variety of places, some are old and some are new. But there is a ton of places to be. Would be better if there was a variety of things to do.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Not many places give student discounts.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Almost always the same menu at the dining hall. Not much variety.

3 College Senior

Facilities: Our fitness center needs updated very much. It is used often and very worn. Our library is small, but our student center is brand new and extremely nice.

5 College Senior

Facilities: I joined clubs and stay very busy on campus. I love the clubs and benefits you receive from them. It's a great way to connect with others and make new friends.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: Everyone is so friendly and inviting. I recently transferred and was able to find awesome people to become friends with immediately.

College Senior

Diversity: This isn't very important on campus to my lifestyle. My views are more home bound and I only tend to focus on school when I am there.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: There is a sheetz, subway, mcdonalds and a giant eagle close by, and a pizza and sub shop. These at all very conveniently priced for college students.

College Senior

Campus Housing: I am a commuter trying to save money in college. Living on campus doesn't fit financially for me.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: I have a single mother, but I still could not receive enough aid for us to pay for my college tuition. I try to save money by commuting, but I am in summer school and still need a little more money. Financial aid covers most of it, but not all of the tuition.

5 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: People are very involved in athletics at this school.

5 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: There are alot of off campus dining options, and they have the best food!

Picking a college is a tough decision and nobody expects you to have your whole life charted out upon high school graduation. Fortunately, Slippery Rock can help you find yourself by exposing you to a laundry list of opportunities and organizations. Sure, students gripe about Weisenfluh food, the miserable weather, and the Ticket Nazi, but SRU students are in it together. Here, you are not treated as a number, but, in many cases, as a family member. Most students agree that the people are what make this place. You will not only make lifelong friendships and connections with fellow students but with professors and local townspeople, as well. It is highly difficult to find a school where professors sincerely care about you, and not just about their research and side projects.

In recent years, Slippery Rock has been trying to overcome the party school stigma that has overshadowed its sophisticated academic programs. Known for many programs, including education, physical therapy, and parks and recreational management, Slippery Rock offers high quality at a low price. Remember that a well-rounded education does not have to translate into millions of dollars in student debt. It is highly recommended that before you commit yourself to any school, visit the campus and see if it feels right. Though some schools look terrific on paper, you may be disappointed upon arrival. Slippery Rock offers something for everyone, and it’s highly recommended that you get involved and make the most of your time here. At Slippery Rock, we play hard, we work hard, and most agree that they would do it all over again in a heartbeat. Go Rock!
