3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: There are huge varieties of students. Some young, some old. Some dress very nice and others gothic. It is somewhat hard to meet new people.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a lot of options. There are a lot of fast food places and most of the restaurants you find are cheap. Just limited options.

5 College Freshman

Campus Dining: The dining hall is great. Theres a good buffet and theres also a small café for coffee or lunch too. Theres only one dining hall though.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I haven't partaken in classes toward my major but my basic classes have been very nice. Good teachers and facilities.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Professors work with students, its easy to register, a lot of places to study, and work is average.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It is a small school so your teachers really know your name in each class. The bookstore is great, it is easy to make friends, and it is easier to focus since its in my home town. The school is unique because of the campus. It is a very nice campus. I wouldn't choose a different school because this one is perfect and close to home. It offers same curriculum as any other university.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: People who are interested in the sports love them but it isn't a football school so many people aren't interested in basketball. Many come from football oriented schools. Some attend the events but it isn't a big deal usually.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The gym is great, library is really amazing too. It is so easy to study there and you have free access to printers and computers anywhere on campus. Activities are average, you just have to look for them. Athletics aren't too bad.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The school requires documents that are hard to get. I have to go through calling the IRS several times and then get them mailed to the school, although they already have my fafsa.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: I have heard that it is bad although I have not participated. I am pretty sure there is not much variety.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: It is hard to find somewhere affordable and decent. Portsmouth is not the safest location. The school has little help where someone can post an ad on the Shawnee website.

3 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Portsmouth is a cute town with great history but it isn't very exciting. There are a handful of independent restaurants and shops but other than that, it's best to hang out on campus.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek Life at Shawnee is very positive and they do a lot of things for the campus.

4 College Freshman

Computers: The regular computer labs are pretty standard. You've got internet and Microsoft Office. The art building have very nice Macs with multiple OS' to suit your needs. They also have tons of art programs like Adobe Suite and rendering programs.

College Freshman

Nightlife: Shawnee State isn't a party school. Parties do happen but if that's what you're looking for, you shouldn't be going to college.

5 College Freshman

Academics: The Game & Simulation Development Arts major is awesome. The professors are highly educated and are great to work with. Shawnee State is #8 in the country for best game development schools.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Some of the General Ed. professors can be boring but overall, the rest of my professors, and the experience I've had in class, are awesome.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never had a problem on campus. Every nook and cranny is lit up and there are security cars always on patrol.

5 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Advisers aren't Nazis but there are expectations to be met. Accountability is the most strict component.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Shawnee's focus is not on sports. Education is key. With that being said, there is good support of sports teams and they have great facilities for them.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I've heard that Shawnee has some of the best housing, if not THE best housing in Ohio. Whether that is true or not, from what I've experienced from the housing here, I'd vote for that being true. All of the housing options are nice, spacious, and best of all, they are apartments, not dorms. All of Shawnee's dorms are homelike and allow good opportunity of sociable fun.

Parking: Parking spots fill up fast but it's usually never "booked". It's my assumption that Shawnee State will be adding new parking lots with the road that they are now in possession of.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I am currently in the post secondary program (POP) and it is great. I am currently achieving my pre-med degree as well. However, because I am a POP student, I do not receive an advisor to recommend classes I should take for major. This is an extreme inconvenience.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: To get into the post secondary program, you must take a test requiring you to score a certain rank to be accepted. I agree wit this, because you must be ready to transition out of high school. You cannot jump straight into classes.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Foreign exchange students are frequent at my university. Students are not judged by gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity.
