Nightlife: You typically can't access the bars around campus until you're 21 years of age, but Port City Pub (Irish pub) is a great place to chill. It has local charm with lots of great food and events (poetry readings, open MIC nights, quiz bowls, team trivia, local bands). If you want a more indie/music scene, keep your ears open for anything going on at Dickens Pub and Frank & Steins, these are local dives with music connections. Also, stop into a local shop called Awesometown and talk to the owners, Johnny and Heather. They'll hook you up with some extremely talented musicians in the area.

Campus Housing: I've never lived on campus but I have friends that do.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: I've never encountered a problem with applying for, or receiving, financial aide. The staff in these departments are very knowledgeable and helpful and they will assist you any way they can. Shawnee State also offers many merit based and need based scholarships, which go a long way.

Health & Safety: Be smart when you're on and off campus. The area is known for drug-related activity (off campus) so always be aware of your surroundings. It isn't often that crime takes place on campus but always be prepared and alert. Making smart and safe decisions will go a long way toward improving your campus experience.

3 College Senior

Campus Strictness: Strictness varies by situation. There are certain professors who are very strict about attendance, and there are those who are very lenient as long as your work is complete and you are participating in class.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: I honestly never hear anything about Greek life on campus, so it must be very low-key. If you're looking for the stereotypical movie frat/sorority experience, this probably isn't the place for you, because its very quiet.

3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: Most of the places off-campus are local joints, like bars and shops, so there isn't a lot of options for college students. We have to be creative when it comes to off-campus activities, so its always beneficial to join a campus club, where activities and cool social events are coordinated.

4 College Senior

Diversity: Diversity is great here. I've never felt uncomfortable on campus. Students are concerned with their coursework, not anyone's personal beliefs or ethnicity, which is amazing. I've lived in places where diversity can he challenging so its great to be part of a university where everyone is accepted and valued for their cultural heritage. Shawnee State University also offers courses to students who want to become more familiar with differing cultures.

4 College Senior

Majors: There is a diverse selection of majors to choose from.

Majors: I'm a Fine Arts major and I absolutely love the program! The art faculty at Shawnee State University is great. The professors are extremely helpful, knowledgeable and willing to take provide extra time and support to help students along. The art curriculum is diverse and offers so many wonderful courses throughout the year, which keeps the art students from getting bored. There's always some new artistic method to be learned and we are constantly being challenged!

Transportation: There really isn't any transportation to and from home, other than ride sharing or driving your own personal vehicle. Shawnee State University could definitely benefit from adding some transportation options for students.

3 College Senior

Off-Campus Housing: There are varied choices when selecting off-campus housing, but the quality of student housing off-campus can be sub par. I've lived in the area my entire life and I've seen a lot of student housing being priced too high for the condition of the homes and the poor neighborhoods they're located in.

2 College Senior

Parking: With an ever increasing amount of students and no additional parking created, its extremely difficult to find a parking spot, especially for those of us who are primarily art students. The one tiny lot directly across the street from the Verne Riffe Center for the Arts has limited spaces, and students are constantly battling for a space. Too often, we are forced to park further from the arts building, which makes it hard to transport all of our art supplies and our artworks. Occasionally, we have to risk parking in an unauthorized space and risk being ticketed or towed.

2 College Senior

Parking: Parking is free for students but in very short supply. The amount of enrolled students keeps getting larger however Shawnee State University has not added a real parking lot to accommodate the increase. I'm sure that students would not be opposed to taking on 20$ on their tuition if it mean more parking options.

Academics: Academics are a challenge. The classes do not come easy and professors expect us to work for our grades. But, if we show that we are willing to work for it and seek out help when needed Shawnee State has a variety of optios from teachers to provided tutors to help us along.
