Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Seattle Pacific University is unique. Students do not have to fit a specific prototype to find their experience rewarding and worthwhile. While SPU does not boast a particularly diverse student body, the education and experience offered truly could accommodate one. For those who seek spiritual growth, there are loads of activities and classes to nurture their souls. For those who aren’t interested, a few Christian scripture classes with surprisingly open-minded professors will suffice. Unlike many religiously-affiliated universities, SPU does not have mandatory chapel services.

Scholarships are distributed generously, which means it won’t take a miracle to finance school if the attendee is comfortable with moderate school loans upon graduation. Plus, students can complete their degree in four years—no sweat. For students who desire a close-knit community, small class sizes and on-campus housing are available and ready to smother them with warm fuzzies. For the more independent, adventurous type, there is a bustling city full of character to be explored—just a walk or bus ride away. Whatever activity or subculture is not represented on campus, it can surely be found in Seattle. As a whole, Seattle Pacific University and Seattle are extraordinarily thoughtful communities, as they both rub off on each other in many ways, leaving a permanent but beautiful mark on all of those who come in contact with them.

Health & Safety: Overall the security is good. We did have a school shooting this year, but it was dealt with quickly and the shooter was took down by students. I am lucky that I go to a school where the students care about each other enough to protect each other in such terrifying circumstances.

Majors: It was not really that hard for me. I completed a Direct Transfer Degree through a community college, so I started taking the classes I wanted after applying to my major.

Campus Housing: There are 5 dorms on campus. Ashton Hall is a little bit of a hike, but not that bad. Ashton is the largest dorm, so most people only are close with people on their floors. Hill Hall has good access. There are not a lot of windows in most of the hall, but the rooms are larger. Emerson is the luxurious dorm. They have slate floors, the best gym, jack and jill bathrooms, and their own parking garage! Is it more expensive, but you get what you pay for. Moyar Hall is the older dorm on campus, but it has the best location (right on the Tiffany Loop). It is also the smallest, so everyone knows each other. The New Residence Hall as not yet open. It is beautiful from the outside and looks like it has very large rooms.

Academics: All of my professors and the faculty members are super nice and are always willing to help you if you need help. SPU cares about their students.
