Campus Strictness: Sarah Lawrence has a very relaxed attitude in terms of strictness. Alcohol use is the strictest if you are underage, but if you are of age, you won't be bothered. Sarah Lawrence is in a quiet neighborhood so, it is often that many parties get broken up by the school cops because of noise complaints. The security attitude towards drugs is lenient. It is a very hippy school and part of the culture, but if you are making too much noise or being a general nuisance, they will ticket you. Lastly, in regards to visitors in your dorm. the official policy is that they have to register with the main office and can only stay for 5 days. I have a friend who stayed for a month with me with no problems, and the only time i had to go to the office was to register them as a guest to get them a guest pass for a school event. Its all bark and no bite with the visitor policy.

Campus Strictness: The security guards don't bother you unless many people call to complain about parties. If you are respectful, they are too and often won't fine you or write you up.

Campus Strictness: There was a reputation in the 90's and prior of SLC being a liberal, hands-off institution when it came to policing students. This has changed entirely since the early 2000's.

Campus Strictness: I wish there was more regulation of class attendance, otherwise, issues only become issues when it begins to effect others or safety of anyone involved. The campus is mainly focused on keeping people safe without restricting them

Above all other things, students get busted for liquor violations such as underage drinking, supplying drinks to underage students, and having open containers filled with alcohol in public. Because of a sudden increase in students taking late-night trips to Lawrence Hospital for alcohol poisoning, the College has upped the security presence at big events. This irks some students, but most agree that the increase in campus strictness is not without just cause. For whatever reason, kids are being more reckless with drugs and alcohol than they used to be, and the College has been forced to respond aggressively.

Of course, if it’s late at night and you and your buddies want to avoid attention from security, then chances are you’ll be OK as long as you’re not careless. Keep the volume down and stay on good terms with your neighbors. There is a tradition of noisy, overly-crowded house parties getting shut down by security, but the College is determined to keep the campus safe and the students protected; the cost of that may be the sporadic loss of a good time.
