4 College Freshman

Scholarships: The school gave me some aid in scholarships. This pays for a bit more than half of my tuition, but I still have to pay for housing.

Campus Housing: I personally like my dorm building because it is a calm, yet social, environment. There are social event that every hall has. There are some dorms that are more social than others. Overall, I like living on campus because it is also close to some class buildings and near the food court.

Drug Safety: The school takes drug abuse very seriously. If drugs are being used, they are probably used off campus. Otherwise, they do not tolerate it.

Athletics: I am not an athlete, but I have heard that the games are pretty popular.

College Freshman

Nightlife: I have not gone to any parties on campus, so i would not know about those situations.

Health & Safety: If there is any crime on or around campus, there is an alert sent to us by phone or email. This year there has not been any issues on campus, but there was a robbery assault off campus near the school. We warned and given tips to avoiding those situations.

Campus Strictness: The school recognizes that young adults are on living on their own for the first time. We are allowed to be independent but the administration ensures our safety by establishing clear guidelines.

College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I'm a freshman and don't have the option of living off campus.

Transportation: It's pretty expensive to take Caltrain to San Francisco, but it is very convenient. The bus system is good, especially for getting to the local malls. But you must pay attention to the schedule as buses run less frequently after 9:00 p.m., and you can get stranded.

Local Atmosphere: SCU is in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, a popular tourist area. You have the top sports teams, cultural events such as the Ballet, Theatres, Symphonies, and great shopping. The most beautiful parks, beaches, and other outdoor attractions are also within driving distance.

College Freshman

Athletics: I'm more into the Arts and don't really pay attention to what's going on with Sports.

Weather: One of the reasons I picked this college was because of the weather and I haven't been disappointed. The climate is always perfect!

College Freshman

Nightlife: I really haven't engaged in nightlife with other students from my college. The social activities that I participate in are hanging out at the mall or going off campus for ice cream. If I'm going to party, it's by going to music concerts in nearby cities. But these activities I tend to do with my boyfriend (not a student) and kids from my high school.

4 College Freshman

Computers: I have my own computer but it's old and unrealiable. It's been very easy to find a computer on campus to use for assignments.

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are very few dining options in close proximity to the campus. This is a real challenge for freshmen, especially given that most underclassmen don't have cars. The dining options on campus are limited and the hours aren't condusive to a typical student's schedule.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: As a person of color, I think that this university could do more to attract a more diverse student body. But that being said the environment is one of acceptance of all students, regardless of their race, religion or sexual orientation.

Health & Safety: There were a lot of theft. A lot of the SCU kids wrote it off by saying it was the "riff raff from San Jose" (... A SCU kid would say that...) haha

Campus Strictness: Campus Strictness was good. Nothing too overbearing, and in the instances in which they were, I understand and respected it.

Off-Campus Housing: Its okay... there were TONS of break ins when i went to school there 2007-2011.

Scholarships: I did not apply to financial AID at SCU. But do it! Because it a super expensive school!

Inspired by its Jesuit roots, Santa Clara's mission to educate the whole person by engaging the mind, body, and spirit encourages its students to maintain a healthy balance between work and play. Santa Clara's diverse academic, extracurricular, and community service opportunities make it easy for students to do what they love and to tailor their SCU experience accordingly. Though many students initially have a tough time adjusting (typical for most college freshmen), taking advantage of the resources provided by the strong campus community can help make the transition process easier. Thriving at Santa Clara requires finding your niche, which can take awhile, but is worth it once you do.

Most students cite weather, location, and academics as Santa Clara's greatest strengths, and they appreciate the active and supportive community on campus. While many students agree that they would change certain aspects of the school if they could (the cost of tuition taking priority), most feel pretty satisfied with their Santa Clara experience.
