4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Nice rooms/ buildings! Love Samford Housing!

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms are your average dorms: cream coloured walls with a bed, desk, closet and drawers. Rooms only hold up to two people, and the cost of living alone is not worth it; you may as well get a roommate. You're free to decorate your dorm however you want, most girls decorate it really cute and make it look very nice. You're allowed to have a refrigerator and microwave. There's limited space, though, so you can't bring too much else other than clothes, some books, your dorm and living supplies and some decorations. Generally the dorms are well kept, pretty clean, even the communal bathrooms and showers.

The social atmosphere is really what makes living in the dorms so nice: everyone is outgoing and interested in you, the RAs are friendly and there to help you. Often girls in the same hall will have event nights together in the dorm's common area and cook things together in the communal kitchen (that is fully equipped with a stove and an oven!)

The housing process was so easy: you fill out the required forms and there you go, Res Life will find a roommate for you. You have the option of searching for a roommate yourself on Samford's special Facebook app, though, which is how I met my roommate!

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: All dorms are small. Samford keeps them up pretty well.

College Junior

Campus Housing: I don't live on campus

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I enjoy living on campus because its right in the middle of everything going on during the semester. The rooms are really nice compared to other college dorm rooms that I've seen. They are a little expensive though.

If you want spacious rooms with kitchen appliances and private bathrooms, come to Samford. For freshmen, Vail, a women's dormitory, contains a flat screen television, pool table, ping-pong table, and piano in its lobby. Its movie room, which must be rented for use, is an especially popular hangout for friends who want to watch movies on a big screen with surround sound while reclining on comfy, enormous bean bags. Smith, a freshman men's dormitory, also houses a ping-pong table and big television, promoting male bonding time especially during football season. Unlike Vail and Smith, Pittman, for women, has suite-style bathrooms and bigger rooms with brighter walls. It recently received a lobby makeover and now contains nicer couches and a much bigger television accompanied by a DVD player.

For upperclassmen, Beeson Woods, a long walk from the cafeteria but easy with a bike, is a community all on its own. Students love the closer locations of buildings, and freshmen look forward to personal bathrooms and living areas to share with their suitemates of choice. Furthermore, each building except Evergreen contains a kitchen where students can cook their favorite foods to their hearts' content. Not to be outdone by the freshman dorms, Beeson Woods also contains "The Underground," which is a large room next to Rosa Hall containing a ping-pong table, pool table, piano, and a big television surrounded by couches. This is the perfect place to relax, do some homework, and hang with friends without having to make the long trek to the library or food court. Student apartments, which are not found in Beeson Woods but instead near the football stadium, are popular with students who do not wish to pay so much for housing and desire a full-size kitchen. Perhaps the only disadvantages to living here would be the long distance from friends in Beeson Woods and lack of a scenic view.

Best Freshman Dorms
Women seem to prefer the updated Vail dorms, but Pittman has suite-style bathrooms and larger rooms. Smith, Vail, and Pittman have great locations right next to the cafeteria and near education buildings.
Best Upperclassman Dorms
Beeson Woods: Malcolm Hall, Wesley Hall, Rosa Hall
Worst Freshman Dorms
People hate on Pittman a lot because of its outdated air-conditioning units (which still work) and tiny lobby. It's much smaller than the other freshman dorms.
Worst Upperclassman Dorms
Most everyone seems to dislike the female upperclassman dorm Evergreen, which is located in Beeson Woods. This is due to its lack of kitchen appliances, living room in each suite, and personal bathrooms.
