Computers: The computer labs at Samford are excellent. We have a computer lab in almost every building which are equipped with brand new mac and pc computers. The service on the computers is great and there is always a computer available. Printing is no hassle. Each student is given a quota of 500 copies per semester. The wifi on campus is everywhere, including outside. If you were to ever have any problem with your personal computer, the computer service technicians will help you and do everything they can possible to fix the computer and get you the best deal on any software you may need. Taking the your personal computer to the technicians does not cost anything to you. It is a fee that is covered in the tuition.

Weather: Samford is generally pretty warm, even in the winter. It will occasionally snow maybe one time between January and March, but the snow will usually be melted by lunch time. It rains an average amount, not too much nor too little. Students can often be found outside on the quad playing games, and hanging out with friends. Overall, the weather is sunny and nice.

Majors: I am a Music Education Major at Samford. Which means I am the 3rd busiest major on campus. I am in a very difficult field that is extremely busy. I would not change my decision for anything. I want to be a choir teacher one day and have no question that Samford will be able to do that.

Diversity: Pretty much everyone on campus is a very conservative, white, straight Republican. Which is not a problem if you are also that. Or if you like getting in arguments with people like that. You will find a little diversity, but it is a Baptist affiliated school.

Campus Housing: I've had pretty good experiences regarding dorms. I lived in Vail my Freshman year and had community bathrooms. Vail is the older option of the two dorms open to girls their Freshman year. I loved the community environment and even though I don't talk to many people who were on my hall, I still loved being there. This year I am in Ethel in Beeson Woods. It is one of the farthest forms from the main campus, but very nice. Ethel has two rooms connected by a common room. The rooms are small, but not too bad and the only thing I can complain about it how small the bathroom area is.

Scholarships: I asked for more scholarship money and the committe reviewed my request and gave me $1000. more each year.

Parking: There is a parking garage and plenty of parking on campus.

5 College Junior

Majors: The application process was simple through NursingCAS website and all the follow through by the faculty has been amazing. My process has been painless and actually enjoyable. The faculty that I have dealt with thus far has been very helpful and treated me as if they have already met me.

Guys & Girls: Pretty conservative dress and look. Southern. 65% girls, 35% boys. 30% Greek Life. Large University Ministries group.

Local Atmosphere: Birmingham is getting better. Downtown is pretty run down, the city declared bankruptcy last fall, but businesses and the government are really trying to revitalize it. There are lots of great neighborhoods with shops, restaurants, parks, things to do. Railroad Park downtown is wonderful and fun and they have been having lots of great events there to bring more people to the city. Even though the city may not be up to its highest standards, the people are some of the nicest around.

Academics: McWhorter School of Pharmacy is known for its excellence. We attract students from across the country, and I would say half of my class has some sort of legacy or tradition that brought them to Samford. We have a new integrative curriculum which is phenominal, and I feel will help us be prepared to step out into the pharmacy profession the instant we walk across the stage at graduation. Our statistics on the NAPLEX speak for themselves. Internships and Job Oportunities are abundant from the very first day of our first year.

College Freshman

Nightlife: There is little nightlife on campus, due to its proximity to downtown Birmingham. Their occasional school hosted events are great.

Academics: I came to Samford University as a student at the McWhorter School of Pharmacy. The staff and professors go out of their way to make you feel like you are wanted, and genuinely want to help you succeed. Although I attended undergrad at another university, I know many undergrad professors at Samford, and I can honestly say that the professors at McWhorter are a great representation of all of the professors at Samford as a whole. Samford is very student centric and does a fantastic job of equipping their students for not only their future employment, but for having a well rounded life experience and outlook.

Majors: Getting the athletic training program is not hard but it's competitive. You have to be focus and on top of your stuff. The application process was pretty much easy, you just have sign a few papers have a couple of documents and write an essay, nothing to hard or abnormal. Have all of your papers and information in order and ready to be reviewed.

5 College Junior

Majors: I am planning on finding an internship because it will help me get job opportunities and more experience with what I want to do career wise. Getting a paid internship is great but internships that does not pay is great too because you are still learning and getting great experience. If you love what you do the money will come regardless.

Majors: The program I am in is wonderful I love the department and the staff they interact with you and guide you in the right direction towards a better future and life. They give encouraging words and uplift you the best way that they can.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Our football team is good this year, but the student section is not the most exciting at times.

Campus Strictness: Samford's public safety officers patrol the campus 24-7, maintaining suspicious activity to a minimum. For every dormitory on campus there is a residence assistant that regulates student activity and enforces room checks every once in a while. The University is a dry campus that restricts the use of alcohol, hookas, and drugs. If caught with possession or committing certain acts not abiding by the rules values violations are enforced.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: I am attending Samford University, and I have been exquisitely enthralled with my education throughout my attendance. I am a Biology major and in the Pre-Med program. The school offers outstanding professors who lecture with the utmost prestige and guidance. They also assist in promoting research programs developing insight on a specific fields of interest.

Off-Campus Dining: Student Discounts Are Great! It's so nice to receive student discounts at restaurants. Although not all restaurants give student discounts, it's fantastic when they do!

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Academics, campus ministries, social life, it's great.

4 College Freshman

Majors: It's a Baptist University. It's a Baptist university, but that doesn't mean that Samford is lacking in Major options. Samford has one of the few Pharmacy schools in 'Bama, and offers a pretty broad spectrum of other majors for a school its size.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: It's Good Enough – The rooms aren't huge, but you can't really expect dorm rooms to be very large anyways. The fact that you're no more than a ten minute walk away from any class on campus makes up for it.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Pleasant Folks – The guys on campus are usually pretty including and friendly. Most of the girls are attractive, nice and down to earth. There are exceptions of course, being the party crowd, but they're a pretty small bunch.

Samford can be a wonderful experience for students. While the first semester can be extremely difficult, with students being away from their families and friends for the first time, things become easier with perseverance. Students first need to get out of their comfort zones and invest in the hilarious, wonderful people who make up the Samford population.

That being said, the people make the experience worthwhile, and there are always opportunities to meet new people, whether it's free concerts on the quad, chilling next to the fountain in Ben Brown Plaza, renting the Vail movie room for "Glee" nights, Step Sing, or worshiping at RUF (Reformed University Fellowship). These are just some of the many things students can experience at Samford. Plus, the caring professors instill in students not only knowledge, but wisdom, preparing men and women for the future every time they step into the classroom. The liberal arts aspect prompts many to draw endless comparisons and similarities between different classes, teaching students to see the "big picture." In addition, the various convo speakers shed new light on issues that matter, making students take on new points of view about things rarely given a second thought.
