5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: there are literally no drugs and there are lots of safety precautions.

Local Atmosphere: You don't really use the South Bend area for anything except occasional shopping or dining, mostly just the clubs which are designed for the students anyways!

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: Dorm parties are fun while you're younger, off-campus house parties are fun, and the clubs are great and welcoming. Feve!

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Pretty average! Lots of student discounts.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on campus is wonderful. Its a great community no matter which dorm you live in. Your neighbors become your close friends.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Its cold and snowy in the winter and hot in the summer months, but it's worth it.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Safety is great. Health is just okay.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: South Bend has really great clubs and bars. Girls take taxis to and from the bars and clubs.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living on campus is the best. There's less than a 10 minute walk from all academic buildings from each dorm. Life in the dorms is very open. Many girls leave their doors open when they are in, welcoming everyone in. I don't have many complaints about the dorms.

Guys & Girls: We are an all-girls school so there are no boys on campus. If we want boy-girl interaction, we go to Notre Dame or we invite boys over from Notre Dame. It does seem like we are an all-girls school because of all the activities available for us to interact with boys. Notre Dame boys are great looking and incredibly smart!

5 College Freshman

Transportation: We have an airport with a train station that is less ten minutes away. It is very easy to get to and flights to many places and to O'Hare in Chicago for farther trips.

Overall Experience: I love my school. If I had to choose a college again, there's not a doubt in my mind that I would choose Saint Mary's again. My professors are great and all the girls treat each other like sisters. Many girls are drawn away from an all-girls school, but I believe that it pushes us to be better in the world and to stand up for women everywhere.

Facilities: I think one of the unique things about our school is that academic buildings are open for us to use 24/7. Also, our professors are great. Each one of them want you to excel and will make special appointments with you in order to help you succeed. One thing that drew me personally to Saint Mary's is nearly every girl has an intended double major. Many majors are set up to overlap another major to make it easy for a double major. I think this sets Saint Mary's women a part from other women because we have more qualifications and the courses are just as hard as well-known, large colleges and universities.

Facilities: I love the aesthetics of campus. We have a pond on campus called Lake Marian with a fountain. The lake is beautiful in all weather and there is an island on the lake. There is a myth that if you take a man across the bridge to the island, he is the one you will marry. Many girls hangout on the island because it is shaded and secluded. Otherwise we hangout in our dorm lounges which have TVs, games, pool tables, and ping pong tables.

Athletics: Because we are a Division III school, varsity sports are not that important. Girls go to games to support their friends, but there's not much attendance past that. Our facilities are great though; we have a great workout area. The machines and other equipment are fit specially for women which is very nice. Working out and being in the gym is a big part of campus life.

Local Atmosphere: Saint Mary's is in the middle of South Bend which is a fairly big city. There are some sites to visit, but not much. We are lucky to have Notre Dame less than a mile away and free transportation over there. When girls want to do something that's where we go. We also get student prices to all Notre Dame games and activities. Once you turn 21, there are more things to do in the city.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are many off-campus options that are good and affordable, but they are difficult to get to. If you don't have a car on campus, there is no way to get anywhere without calling a cab. The bus that runs through campus only goes to the local mall.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I have not started in my major yet, as I am still a freshman. Upperclassman that I have talked to say that a Statistics major is great. Some days you feel overloaded, but others not so much. Also many of the girls were able to take fun elective classes while deep in the major.

5 College Freshman

Academics: I love the options of classes that is offered here. A new program that Saint Mary's has implemented for this year's freshmen requires them to take a variety of classes in order to make them more well-rounded students.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There is hardly any alcohol or drug abuse on campus. We are a small, all-girls school so there are not many places for us to go to "party" on campus. Many underage girls go to Notre Dame for dorms parties and house parties. Upperclassmen go to clubs and bars in the area. Although, Saint Mary's is not a dry campus, it seems as though it is most of the time.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: My campus is pretty lenient with rules/laws. We are expected to abide by state laws (underage drinking, illegal drugs) and follow common sense rule on campus. We also have parietals, which is a curfew for male guests because we are an all girls school. I know some girls don't like parietals but I think it gets us a sense of time and responsibility. These parietals are not a curfew for us though, we are allowed to be out of the dorms or off campus for as long as we wish.
As for underage drinking and other illegal activities there are consequences. If you are caught underage drinking, you get "ResLife-d." It is being reported to the school and could prohibit you from participating in various school activities and studying abroad. We have the same consequences for other illegal activities on campus.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It is very cold and snowy this time of year on campus. Although all the snow is very beautiful, the walkways are very slippery after they get plowed.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Drinking: go fore it, because everyone else does. you'll be fine all 4 years.
Drugs: Don't even think about it, because they will find you and kick me off casts!!!
Parking sucks. We need more.
Plagiarism: very strict
Beaking the bad

College Sophomore

Athletics: No one goes to SMC sports unless their friend is on the team. Hit up the ND/HCC sport houses to find some fun

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I got a great academic scholarship from SMC, but I didn't qualify for need-based financial aid. When I told them that the scholarship wasn't enough to cover me for attending, they added in a couple grants to get me to make it through. I thought that was amazing!!!
