Health & Safety: Saint Mary's takes the safety of the girls on campus really seriously. They have 24/7 security that can pick you up from Notre Dame's campus and anywhere on our campus. They will also take you to and from the hospital if necessary. Personally, I think they are all wonderful people -- always looking out for the students, and not rude or judgmental of issues you may be having (for example, they will pick you up even if you are black out drunk because they'd rather you get back safely). Saint Mary's also has a wonderful policy called the Good Samaritan Rule. This says that if you call for help for your friend and stay with her, you won't get in trouble if you were doing anything illegal (like drinking underage). Overall, Saint Mary's puts the safety of it's students over the enforcement of the rules, which I think is wonderful. They could work on their actual presence on campus though -- unless you call security, it's unlikely that you will see them more than every 20 minutes or so.

Diversity: Stereotypical white republican catholic all girls school with a few liberals and independents thrown into the mix.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Lots of variety but easier to stay on campus.

1 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: South bend is terrible if you get into the downtown area.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Not terrible if you have time to wait in the long lines for the healthier options.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: Lots of possibilities to work with multiple majors as well as design your own.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: Provides required hands on experience that most undergraduate programs don't require and hardly have the possibility of providing.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The best professors who actually care about you learning the material and liking it rather than just getting by.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Great faculty and amazing opportunities to gain hands on experience.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It's a little strict but only on things that are necessary.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Love it! best dorms i've ever been in

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Good variety but few in walking distance.

2 College Sophomore

Athletics: No one pays attention to smc sports, you would only go to games if your close friends were playing in them and asked. Very little school spirit.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Its definitely better if you can pay completely out of pocket.

1 College Sophomore

Diversity: Very little diversity. Very few international students, very few anyone different from anyone else. Everyone is pretty much upper middle class, catholic, and conservative. As a whole, the school tries to attract more women of varying backgrounds but it just doesn't work out, and their efforts are refuted. If you hope to gain knowledge about other people and cultures and make different friends, then this place is not for you. However, if you want friends exactly like yourself then this is the place for you.

Drug Safety: Many girls pretend they do not do anything at all, but after a while it becomes too hard to hide. Drinking in excess is a pretty popular pastime here.

3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: The atmosphere isn't great, its south bend. The only decent thing about this area is Notre Dame, you have to note the rivalry between the schools though. It makes everything more interesting. Overall, I definitely wouldn't live here past school, it has little to offer.

Health & Safety: The campus health center sucks, they hardly assisted when I had a killer cold and I had to keep coming back several times to figure what was the issue. If you have the choice, try to go back home to your own doctor. Concerning safety, there are constantly warnings and alerts about issues going on being emailed, the campus isn't well lit and scary. I hated walking back to the dorm from my car because it seems so desolate and makes me feel like a prime target. I also heard of horror stories about girls getting attacked and hurt.

3 College Sophomore

Computers: I have my own computer and printer so I wouldn't need to use any of the ones in the computer lab, however from what I can tell many girls feel fine using the resources available and I've never heard anyone complain about it.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life doesn't exist here.

1 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: No assistance in helping you live off campus because you are not allowed to until senior year.

2 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: Campus police sucks, they are rude and condescending whenever you ask questions or for help. There is strict visitation for opposite sex, as 12am during the week and 2am on weekends. Its basically like you are a child and the people that run the school are the parents, theres no freedom or choice to govern yourself in any kind of manner. It is run like a babysitting service for so called adult women.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Horrible housing situation. You are required to live on campus for 3 years, and the best dorm is only available for 4th years. The dorms are old and they smell like it. Not one dorm is great, they have that old "charm" if you wanna call it that. Truly awful. And there is no sense of dorm spirit or anything that would make living in these ancient buildings fun.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: If you have friends who play and even if you don't its great to go watch sports. Notre Dame sports are popular as well.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: There are shuttles which are convenient and security will pick you up anywhere at any time.
