Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Rowan University is more than you'd expect from a New Jersey state university. With a student body of close to 10,000 students, the University is a great size—it has a close-knit feel, but you'll still probably meet someone new every day. With a nationally acclaimed engineering program, the University attracts some of the best and brightest. The Rowan experience exists far beyond the classroom though. On any given weekday night, there is always something to do. Whether it’s a University-planned event, bingo at Rowan After Hours, or a fraternity party, there is something for everyone.

Rowan is home to a humble student body, so if you put yourself out there, there's a good chance you'll meet some of the greatest friends you will ever make. As far as academics go, if you put in a lot of work, you'll get a lot back. The professors genuinely care about the students’ success and often encourage everyone to share their opinions in class. Projects, including the addition of the Rowan Boulevard Apartments and the Cooper Medical School, prove that Rowan is looking to grow from a state school of regional interest to a nationally recognized university.

College Freshman

Campus Strictness: If you want to drink on campus without getting caught it can be difficult or easy, all depending on where you choose. Glassboro cops can be strict, but they can also be pretty nice if you aren't totally trashed and nice to them. If you are caught with illegal drugs (marijuana, heroin, etc.) it's almost certain you will lose housing as the policy is one strike and you lose it, so don't be stupid, or at least don't do it in public.

Transportation: It's a moderate size campus. Some places are obviously farther away from other places but in most instances you can get from one place to the next in less than five or ten minutes on foot. Longboards are pretty popular in the warmer weather as are bikes.

Local Atmosphere: Glassboro is a small town, with not much to do. It is pretty close to Philadelphia though and there is a bus that can take you there and back for free but it only runs on the weekend and you have to make your own plans. The town isn't exactly fond of the university with many residents complaining of public urination and intoxication so relationships between the school and town are strained at best.

Facilities: The dorm RAs run programs to keep residents involved. Rowan After Hours always has something going on on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights if you don't really want to go out on the big party nights, although the events can get a bit stale as the semester wears on.

Off-Campus Housing: Guaranteed housing for freshman and sophomores, everybody else needs to enter the housing lottery. The housing lottery is rather annoying though and a lot of people end up without on campus housing and have to seek off campus housing as a result or transfer. The town of Glassboro really doesn't have enough room to house all the students so housing is a valuable commodity.
