3 College Sophomore

Local Atmosphere: It is small town/suburb and there is shopping around. There are also some farms and vineyards too. Not too far from Philadelphia or Atlantic City.

3 College Student

Local Atmosphere: Glassboro is a small town, with not much to do. It is pretty close to Philadelphia though and there is a bus that can take you there and back for free but it only runs on the weekend and you have to make your own plans. The town isn't exactly fond of the university with many residents complaining of public urination and intoxication so relationships between the school and town are strained at best.

2 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: Glassboro is an awful, dirty, dangerous, ghetto, and drugged up city. I'm sure you can extrapolate with that much information.

3 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: I like all of the trees on campus. Seriously pretty.

If you crave lots of stuff to do and love to dance the night away, you might find yourself by yourself—and that’s the truth. Unfortunately, Rowan doesn’t have too much of a nightlife, which the University does a good job of inadvertently highlighting through its Rowan After Hours (RAH) program—various events are held Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights until 1 a.m. in the Student Center. It's great that the school offers stuff to do on the weekends, but the fact that on-campus programs are regularaly held during the prime party times at other colleges says something. If you are looking for a movie to compare the local atmosphere with, you’ll have to look beyond movies like “Road Trip” and turn your attention to “The Hours”—a movie about angst and sheer boredom. But don't let the lack of a spirited local atmosphere stop you from having fun—just don't expect to have it in Glassboro.

Unless you want to enjoy peace and quiet at all times or you want to sit in on a festive city of Glassboro board meeting (supposedly, the parking ordinance conversations can get pretty lively), then don’t expect much from the city. Luckily, Rowan has detached from the depressing Glassboro environment, and there is a lot to do on campus.
