4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: For underclassman the housing can be nice. It's guaranteed to all freshman and sophomores, but outside of that you are subject to the housing lottery which has gotten worse as time goes on with many seniors not having on campus housing. The dorm living is pretty good for meeting new people and making friends though.

2 College Freshman

Campus Housing: If you choose the nicer dorms price is too high. If you choose the cheaper dorms the quality is too low. Housing is never guaranteed either.

1 College Freshman

Campus Housing: For freshmen you will experience the worst of the worst. I have three older siblings that went through college already and had their share of awful dorms but when they saw mine they even pitted me. My shower pipe was held together by duck tape and a plastic bag for the first semester. The area per person is uncomfortable even for one. The dorms are almost 60 years old. The bathrooms are supposed to be maintained by the students themselves, so of course it is never cleaned and continues to build in residue and stench everyday. One shower and toilet is shared per 7 students. You will be tripled in an area meant for one person because the university is trying to make money and accepting way more students then is can handle (which caused the 600+ upperclassmen denied housing next semester compared to last years 74). I have seen prison cells with better living arrangements. The upperclassmen are supposed to get newer housing that is apparently nice.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I have only lived within a freshman dorm, and for being older and smaller they are not bad compared to other campus tours I have been on. The upperclassmen options are larger in space, but Rowan Boulevard and the Townhouses are much nicer and newer than Edgewood or Triad Apartments. Any cost to live on campus is high so i have nothing to compare it to.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: My roommate and I get along and the rest of the people in my building are all nice. We all get along and many of my friends live within my hallway

Rowan’s housing situation leaves much to be desired, and unless you are in the townhouses, staying in campus housing is far from living in the lap of luxury. However, this doesn’t mean that the dorms on campus are unlivable, they just aren’t glamorous or anything. With regards to freshman dorms, Evergreen and Willow are the most desirable places to live due to their modernized feel and coed floors. However, Chestnut, Mullica, and Mimosa halls are great for inter-floor mingling despite the fact that the floors are split by gender. All resident students are governed by residential advisers. A position not for the faint of heart, RAs are special individuals. Some RAs can have hang-ups that will make your living experience at Rowan more of a struggle, but there are also RAs who are terrific with great attitudes and a great ability to help students.

The housing lottery experience at Rowan is definitely ulcer-inducing. Where you live for the upcoming year could depend solely on whether your random time slot is desirable or not. However, Residence Life consists of some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet—they will do everything in their power to accommodate as many students as possible, something that’s not always done at other colleges.
