4 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: It is a small town, but I like it. There is enough here that you don't have to make a big trip to go and get anything.

3 College Junior

Local Atmosphere: It's a decent town to live in, at least from living on campus looking out at the community.

5 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere is amazing!! Many local businesses offer discounts to college students, and the community welcomes us with open arms. There are tons of cute coffee shops in the downtown area, but many places close early and have strange hours. A grocery store is within walking distance. Overall, the community and campus are very safe places.

2 College Freshman

Local Atmosphere: It's practically in the middle of nowhere, and there's not much to do off campus besides throwing yourself into tons of activities and greek groups, who you know everyone already and that makes it kind of boring.

4 College Senior

Local Atmosphere: The local atmosphere is very charming and inviting. Ripon, although small, is a very dignified college town. It has quaint little shops, and lots of parks located throughout the city. I have always felt safe, and I always feel very welcomed by the people in the town. People seem to be proud of the college and the high standards it holds its students to.

There are a variety of restaurants around Ripon to keep students satisfied, but as far as attractions around town, Ripon doesn't offer a lot. The town is still quaint and charming but relatively quiet and low-key. Overall, the local businesses and owners are friendly and welcoming to college students. Some places will even give discounts to students with their college IDs! The surrounding cities are about as safe as can be expected for mid-sized cities. There isn't a lot of crime, and if people are smart, there aren't many problems. Since Ripon is somewhat removed from other towns, students have to drive 20 to 40 minutes to get to larger cities. Therefore, students tend to stay on campus and find things to do there.

The Ripon community does have some nice events, like a local farmers' market (in good weather) and some bands playing in parks. There is an annual event around the holiday season called "Dickens of a Christmas," and there is caroling and people get dressed up, and the businesses do living windows. It's a lot of fun, and both students and community members get involved. In the past few years, Ripon students have taken to getting a group together to carol inside some of the local businesses on Main Street. There is also a Halloween event called "Tiny Terror on the Square" for young kids, but Ripon students get involved and volunteer to help out with the event, too. There is a parade of the kids in their costumes around the square, and kids can go trick-or-treating to local businesses, as well.
