Students at Rice find that the dining experience is truly world class. Each of Rice's 11 residential colleges has a commons (dining hall) and servery (kitchen) from which students eat three meals per day. The on-campus meal plan allows students all-you-can-eat access to the serveries, which creates a comfy, homey environment where you don't have to be worrying about a food budget all of the time.
Students also rave about the dining staff—who aren't just cooks, but real chefs that work at Rice because they love interacting with the students (think Southern hospitality at its finest). The staff at your college's servery goes out of its way to get to know you and cater to your liking. Each servery has a unique flair—Mediterranean, healthy organic, vegetarian, French—and serves special dishes during different days of the week. Lucky students might get an invite from a Rice faculty member to dine at Cohen House, the ritzy faculty club, but many students graduate without ever stepping inside.
