Most RISD kids go to parties instead of clubs and bars. Parties at RISD are in fairly small off-campus apartments and usually involve a minimal amount of alcohol and a lot of dancing and dressing up. Because RISD is small, most kids know everyone else or have at least seen one another around, and you will rarely end up at a party where you don’t know anyone at all. Most parties only take place on Friday and Saturday nights, and many students only have time to go to one party a week. On a Friday, kids will start getting together around 9 p.m. and may hang out until four or so in the morning, but by midday Saturday, everyone is back in studio working. Most RISD parties are a lot of fun because when students do finally decide to take a break and cut loose, they do it in a big way. There are often theme parties such as “Cat and Mouse,” “Playboy Party,” “Black and White,” and “Vintage Dinner Party.” If kids are going out to have fun, '80s night is a favorite. In case you couldn’t guess why, it’s because they can get out their sweatbands and dress up.
The school parties are also pretty awesome—there is lots of dancing, lots of drinking, and lots of fun. Another great part about the nightlife in Providence is that there are things for students under 21. There are a bunch of coffeehouses to hang out in, and most clubs let in people under 21 as long as they don’t drink. Most people don’t have a lot of time to party at night, but when they do, there is always something going on, and the experience is always memorable.
