Nightlife: It's different to typical colleges.

Nightlife: If you want to party, then you can go make yourself a party. There aren't a lot of bars near Reed and no clubs. If you go to downtown portland, both can be found. Unless, you have a car or a friend who has a car going at at night to downtown portland would be inconvenient because the buses don't run that late and Reed does not offer any shuttles from there. Although, not a lot of people venture out to downtown portland for clubs and bars, mostly just concerts.

Nightlife: Variety of Parties, Both on an Off-Campus – Most weekends there's something pretty good going on, even though it's a small school. If you like to party hard, you can definitely do that. The school is not cliquey, but there are people who like to party more than others and who tend to hang out together. The school has little events fairly frequently that are pretty much completely organized by students, and there are house parties and shows too.

Most Reedies do not have a strong grasp on Portland's nightlife. Since the Portland nightlife mostly hinges on being 21 or older, most Reedies either stay on campus, visit off-campus parties, or wait until they are 21 to fully peruse Portland's selections. Despite the age restrictions, Portland's club and concert scene doesn't fail to please. Portland offers numerous clubs with good drinks, live music, and all the dancing you could want.

If you aren't 21, then coffeehouses and other entertainment options are available, but they aren't as prevalent as the clubs, concert halls, and bars. Reedies, although generally preferring to party on or around campus, do occasionally leave the library to venture to a theater, coffeehouse, or around town. Additionally, students find that most non-club places (with a few coffeehouse exceptions) close rather early for their tastes, with many places shutting their doors between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. In all, nightlife exists in Portland, but it isn't as conducive to people under 21 as many Reedies would like.

Organization Parties
Reedies know how to party on campus. Besides the occasional campus bonfire, numerous formals and balls occur throughout the year to satiate the on-campus partying needs; these include Winter Formal, Spring Formal, Harvest Ball, a Masquerade Ball, a Drag Ball, and a Fetish Ball. Additionally, after classes let out in the spring, the campus sponsors a three-day cathartic event called Renn Fayre, where the seniors celebrate the turning-in of their theses and everyone celebrates the end of classes.
Did You Know?
There are a few options if you're not 21 and seek a late-night treat and possibly some music. The Pied Cow is open late and has good ambiance. Additionally, there is the Rimsky-Korsakoffee House, which has live music, good treats for snacking, and an interesting bathroom.
