Ramapo College takes drug and alcohol offenses very seriously, notifying the Mahwah Police Department of any infraction against the law, in addition to taking judicial action against the student. Alcohol is prohibited in all areas of campus, except for The Village (if all residents are over 21) and the top two floors of Laurel Hall. Those that are caught will be asked to show their ID, and if they refuse, they will be escorted off campus. There is a pressure to participate in the drinking scene at Ramapo, but no more than at any other college. Students will not be ostracized if they do not drink.
Drugs are occasionally visible on campus, as students will occasionally get lax in how they use them. Students who attempt to sell or buy will be subjected to the fullest consequence of the law. Despite this, drug activity seems to be fairly high, no pun intended. Students who do drugs tend to smoke marijuana or take prescription medicines for recreational purposes; other drugs find their way on campus occasionally, but mostly are only heard of once students are found out and busted. Students would be advised not to smoke in their dorm rooms, as the sprinkler systems and smoke detectors are very, very touchy. Setting one off (for any reason) could result in serious fines and possibly loss of housing.
