3 College Freshman

Facilities: If you make friends you will love this school, its small after awhile but soon you learn to love it.

2 College Freshman

Facilities: They need to really work on the capus, forget the open fields we need buildings to learn not grass.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: The biggest hang out on campus is "The Bonnie". Inside students find pool tables, ping pong, darts, and even a bowling alley.

The athletic centers/ gyms we have now are okay but a little small. However the school is in the process of building a beautiful, massive athletic center for students that is supposed to be finished Fall 2014.

We have club fairs and we had the Highlander Festival. Quad Fest is coming up soon, apparently that's a lot of fun. There's not a lot around the Radford area but the students are fun and we make it work.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Everyone is very social at Radford. It's very easy to get involved. There are lots of travel abroad opportunities and every student is hooked up with an advisor from their department to help secure internships and sign up for classes. I didn't need to utilize the tutoring center or anything my first semester ('m entering my second semester in January) so I can't really review that. I do know that the Students with Disabilities office is committed to making sure every student gets a fair chance to learn. They do ADHD testing and such there. It seems like a great resource. They also have note takers in every class so students with disabilities can pick up notes to help them study.

4 College Freshman

Facilities: Events are going on all the time on campus. There is always something to do and the movies on campus are awesome!

The University is constantly working to improve the facilities for its students. The Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center was finished in 2005 and provides many forms of entertainment, including a movie theater, bowling alley, and pingpong and pool tables. The McConnell Library has five floors of books, journals, and other forms of media in order to meet the academic needs of students. There are plenty of quiet areas in which to work, whether a student needs to be alone or work in a group. A café is on the main level of the library if you need a quick snack and caffeine fix. Various electronic media equipment, such as video recorders and laptops, are available for students to check out. There are several computer centers within the library, as well as copiers and scanning equipment to meet all student needs. Also, the library is run by a very competent and helpful staff.

The athletic centers are clean, but often crowded. The facilities are well staffed, and although the equipment is on the older side, everything is kept in excellent working condition. All of the buildings are aesthetically pleasing and well maintained. While many of the facilities are older, the school works hard to make improvements and is constantly in the process of building new facilities or upgrading the quality of the existing ones.

"Green" Initiatives
Radford has taken many steps toward living a greener life on campus. One example is that all the diesel equipment on campus runs on a B20 fuel blend that is more sustainable and helpful in reducing harmful emissions. Every year, the school participates in RecycleMania, a 10-week competition that promotes waste reduction within campus activities.
School Slang
  • ABP: Au Bon Pain
  • The Bomb Shelter: What the worst party house of the year is called
  • The Bonnie: The Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center
  • Darkside: Jefferson Street side of campus
  • Lightside: Tyler Avenue side of campus
  • Mess/Messy: Usually describes a drunk individual
  • Shiesty: The act of being fake, lying, or unreal as a person
  • Trife: Anything that is shady or not quite accurate
Quadfest: Quadfest is a long-standing student tradition that usually happens during the third weekend in April and involves an inordinate amount of people from all over Virginia coming to Radford to get as absolutely drunk as possible. The school sponsored it at one point, and there used to be bands and other activities planned, but due to the amount of drunk and disorderly charges, the school revoked sponsorship and has tried to ban it. However, students have kept the tradition alive, and thousands still flock to Radford for a variety of drinking activities. The weather is usually great, and pickup games of football, kickball, softball, and ultimate Frisbee are played by students everywhere. Take caution, though: The police are not stupid and keep an eye on the students.
Favorite Things To Do
Bowling, attending school productions, and shooting pool are a few activities students enjoy doing. There is a variety of regular events on campus. In the Bonnie Hurlburt Student Center, the Campus Activities Board (CAB) and Black Awareness Programming (BAP) host comedians and local musicians. In Porterfield Hall, school productions are performed and open mic nights are hosted on a monthly basis. In the Bonnie Hurlburt Auditorium, Greek life often hosts pageants or auctions.
