Weather: Colder Than Northface – Its so cold and early in the year around mid october. The weather is a little unpredictable it can be freezing one day and really nice the next. The cold is like non other you will need to stock up on cold gear.

Campus Housing: Above average resident halls – The campus housing is actually pretty good. Generally speaking, the rooms are much larger than average dorm rooms. The bathrooms are also all suite-style, which is much more convenient and sanitary than traditional hall bathrooms. Radford is also constantly renovating its residence halls.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Just Alcohol and Weed – There is definitely a lot of drug use at Radford. The majority of students drink and many of them also smoke. There is a strong "weed scene" for sure, but lots of students choose to not smoke. If you like to smoke weed, you will definitely not be the odd man out. I would basically sum up the drug scene at radford as alcohol followed by weed/marijuana use. Even though many students do smoke, the majority of them don't.

Facilities: The people are arrogant and can't use their own brains to formulate their own thoughts, they're party going idiots. Not to say I don't party, but it's all students at radford are concerned about

Transportation: Public transportation is average. There are buses that take you to stores and to the parking lot to get to cars.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: The sports at Radford are diverse, there are many sports to play and many club teams to join. The sports teams are pretty big at Radford.

1 College Freshman

Facilities: Campus Life – Athletic centers are under par, no football team, lack of interest in athletics, and involved in a bad conference. Library is small and is constantly noisy. General Campus is in a beautiful area.

2 College Freshman

Academics: Workload and Professors – Professors don't show enthusiasm, under educated. Workload is medium.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: The facilities at Radford are pretty nice. There are nice buildings and a nice campus. The campus activities are lacking at Radford.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: All Four Seasons – You can definitely tell all four seasons at RU. It is warm during the spring and summer, and fall is gorgeous.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Good Selection – There are many good restaurants within walking distance of campus. Even more are available in neighboring towns.

5 College Sophomore

Facilities: Inside Scoop – There are a lot of different organizations to join, and that's not even mentioning the sororities and fraternities, because I'm not even a part of that. I am the treasurer and secretary of the Premed Club and the Secretary of the CSAT Stem club. The Csat stem club is for people in the majors of the sciences, math, and computer science, however there are also some people who have majored in psychology and business. The Csat Stem club also offers scholarships, such as the Bridges and Pipelines scholarship. The premed club was developped to help people get into med school, so they would know everything they have to go through. The academic programs are the honors academy and tribeta, which is the biology club. There is also the chemistry club and they offer free tutoring in almost every chemistry class. The chemistry professors all have review sessions before their tests, so you can better learn the material. If something goes wrong in your dorm room, such as something breaks or isn't working, you can submit a fix it request and the facilities management will come fix it. The student activities people have programs such as making a sign, build a bear, movies every weekend for a $1 and $.50 on Sundays at 2pm, if you show your id. There is also one concert each semester, for the fall 2010 we had 3OH!3 and down with webster and Hellogoodbye in the Fall 2009, Flo Rida came.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been excellent. Personally, I am in the Honors Academy, so the Honors classes are really small, and you can also register as an upperclassman if you are a freshman and when you are a sophomore you register with juniors, and etc. However even my non-honors class are quite small, except for the Biology and Chemistry lecture, but the labs are small, usually less than 20 people. I like the fact that it's usually quiet, there are a lot of places to study, the people are nice and friendly. The professors work with you when you don't understand the material. There is a place called the Learning Assitance and Resource Center (the Larc) that offers free tutoring to all students all 4 years and the tutors are certified. If you don't need tutoring then you can work for the LARC as a tutor or a scheduler, and you will become certified, it does require a letter of recommendation from your professor of that class and you must be a sophmore with a GPA of 3.2 or higher and you must have an A or a B in the class you want to tutor. You do not have to be work study to tutor and you will make $8-10 an hour and you make your own hours you can work. There are also other job opportunities on campus and most of them have down time where you can study. I also like the school for myself, because it's close to home but far enough away. I live about an hour from campus, and it was nice that I could have a car freshman year. I also like the fact that the university owns apartments, that makes me feel safer about wanting to move off campus in the fall. The dorms are nice though, I like the governor's quad, which is where I currently live in Stuart Hall. All of these dorms have AC and they're relatively quiet and Stuart Hall has only 3 floors and a basement, a computer lab, and 2 classrooms and a lounge in the basement, which makes it especially nice.

Transportation: The Transit – I have to admit that I have never used the Transit, because I have a car, but it is supposed to pick you up from the parking lot to drive you back to campus, however I never seem to be able to catch it when it's coming back to campus, because it also goes to walmart. And the hours are really weird. The system is supposed to be changing and the new routes range from the New River Valley Mall in Christiansburg, valley View Mall in Roanoke, the parking lot,and to the university. So that is something to look forward to.

1 College Freshman

Parking: Not Very Good – The majority of the parking is across a bridge that is about a 10 minute walk from campus and can be creepy to walk across at night.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Average Everyday Students – At my school you'll find a variety of different students. Most are laid-back, average students. We also do have a lot of skateboarders.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Totally Safe – I feel really safe on campus, even after dark. It is a small, quiet town with plenty of police available on campus.

Overall Experience: My overall experience has been amazing, I've made wonderful friends that I wouldn't trade for the world. I wouldn't imagine going anywhere else. One of those memories that just sticks out every time I think about Radford is the Theatre picnic at the beginning of each year. Everyone has been away from each other for the summer, and to be able to come back and see everyone again is always a great feeling.

4 Niche User

Overall Experience: I have loved my experience at Radford. I'd come here again if I had to do it over. The study abroad programs here are top notch. We have study abroad programs with something like 30 different countries and universities. I went to England and Scotland to study history for a summer. Most wonderful experience ever. I made some really good friends on that trip.

4 Niche User

Overall Experience: I love it here – I love it here. If I could start over as a freshman, I would do it in a heartbeat.

3 Niche User

Overall Experience: I like RU for the most part. I've gone up and down with my feelings towards this school. I am not a big fan of being in such a small town, and if I could do it over I might go to a city school. But Radford offers some amazing teachers and small class sizes which is a huge plus. I have also met a lot of really interesting and nice people here so that's another plus.

5 Niche User

Overall Experience: I love Radford! At this point, I can't see myself going anywhere else. Whenever I visit my friends at other schools, I can't help but think that I have it better at Radford. As cliche' as it may sound, everyone is pretty nice and outgoing and fun to be around and the professors are overall really great, as well. I came to Radford because of it's amazing Theatre Department and the more I'm here, the more I realize that there are so many pro's to being here. If you're an outgoing and excited student, then you're going to love what Radford has to offer you!

2 Niche User

Weather: You should have your entire wardrobe at school – You should probably have your entire wardrobe here because the weather changes by the hour! One day it can be hot and sunny and the next hour it could be raining.

3 Niche User

Weather: The weather can be unpredictable, it can either get cold quickly in the beginning of October. Or it can wait and be in the 70-80 degree range until November comes. But the winter is rather cold and hoodies and jacket's are going to want to be accompanied by gloves and other things like that. However, when spring comes and it starts to warm up, it gets very warm, very fast.

3 Niche User

Weather: You get all temperatures and weather at Radford during the school year. High 80's to low teens in temperatures. If you rotate your closets based on break- come to school for fall semester with summer to fall clothes. Maybe a sweater or two to tide you over until fall break. Then at fall break take home all your summer things and pack up all your winter clothes, cause it gets down right icy sometimes, but keep your fall-ish things for the spring thaw. Then at spring break, bring back you summer things.

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
