Greek Life: Some Greeks – There are some Greeks on campus, but not too much.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: My tuition is being paid for by scholarships, and plenty are available. I have had no issues with the financial aid office

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Glad I Transferred – I love being at Radford. I transferred here after my freshman year, and I am so glad I did. Playing club softball has made me some of the best friends I have ever had. RU has become my home with my second family

4 College Junior

Majors: Sports Medicine – Sports medicine is not an easy program, but I enjoy every minute of it. It is alot of work inside and outside of the classroom, but you develop personal relationships with your instructors because of the selective size of the program.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Changing Reputation – Radford has been given a reputation as a huge party school, but this image is being changed. Police are cracking down on drinking and drug use at RU. Drinking is much more popular than drug use.

4 College Junior

Majors: Great Support in Sports Medicine – I love my major and I am so happy that I chose it. It is difficult and it does require many challenging classes, but the faculty and professors are very supportive and personal. This program gives me everything that I need for physical therapy school. I have no concerns with getting into physical therapy school someday

Majors: There are a number of majors offered at Radford University especially since its size is fairly small.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I received an athletic scholarship so that was much easier. It is also easier to find for freshman applying to Radford University than for returning students.

Greek Life: If your not an athlete, most students choose to be part of a sorority or fraternity. It is very common to see greek letters on campus. The majority of students are part of one sorority or fraternity. The greek life definitely enhances the social atmosphere of the campus. It gives students another avenue to follow besides sports

Facilities: While Raddy lives up to it's expectations, students here are seriously about their health and education. The majority of students are more than willing to go out and have fun thrusday-saturday nights but the rest of the week your studying, eating healthy, and working. We take pride not only in our nightlife but in our brains and apperance, and it shows.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: very strict policies on drugs and alcohol, especially in dorms.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: Pretty Good – There are a lot of little parts about Radford that you have to find. One major highlight is the New River which runs basically next to campus. Its nice to go down there and relax or study or hang out with friends. Theres also the bowling alley, and the pool tables. Theres decent gyms around campus to work out. The rock wall in Peter's gym is nice to utilize. Most of the time theres random events on campus that you need to watch out for which are a lot of fun.

3 College Sophomore

Transportation: Still New – The transportation system is pretty good. The bus system is somewhat new so they are still getting the kinks out, but its pretty decent right now. There are quite a few buses that run around campus and downtown. There's one that take you to Virginia Tech on the weekends which can be pretty good for night time fun.

Parking: The parking situation is awful. It is hard to get a spot, and the parking lots are so far away from campus. You have to cross over a bridge to get back. There is a bus system that goes from the lots back to campus, but it can be difficult to find the bus stops in the dark.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I Love It – Radford is a great place to go to school. classes are very small in size, (70 is about as big as youre gonna get, with a few exceptions). All the professors are very nice and willing to help.

4 College Freshman

Nightlife: Great Parties – The parties here are awesome. the farthest you may have to walk is 15 minutes max but the majority of stuff is well under a 10 minute walk, so you dont have to drive or pay for a cab back to campus.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Lots of Girls – Because the ratio is 60/40 girls/guys, there are obviously a lot of girls, many of which are extremely hot.

5 College Senior

Nightlife: Everything You Need – Radford offers every type of nightlife you need with in walking distance. If your looking for a club scene Riley's is the place to go. If your looking for some good bars there Sharkeys, Bt's, Bar 24, and Macados. Then there are all the frat parties up and around lightside and house/apt parties on both dark and lightside. You can pretty much go out and find something crazy going on every night of the week.

4 College Senior

Campus Dining: Food Options – There are 3 main food courts, Dalton, Muse, and The Bonnie. In Dalton you can find Au Bon Pain, Wendy's, Papa John's, Sushi, and the cafeteria. While in The Bonnie you can find, Salsarita's, Pinkberry,Starbucks, Chicfila, and a salad place. Muse has a buffet during lunch and fine dinning for dinner. The school offers a pretty wide variety of choices for food.

Health & Safety: Safety on Campus – I feel that campus is very safe. Campus is lit at night and cops are always patrolling around. If there is ever any problem cops are there within seconds because of the amount of them. Most building you need an ID card to get in and there are emergency alarms scattered throughout campus.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: Fairly Easy – The admissions process is fairly easy and straightforward. Staying in will require work, your major will determine how much.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Mixed Bag – No complaints, there is someone for everyone here.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Professors Tend to Be Very Approachable and Willing to Help – Most of the classes I have taken to date have been very challenging.

Weather: Bring your entire wardrobe! I'm serious, this is the only place I have ever been to where I have experienced all four seasons on the same day. There was one day in mid to late March where it was about 80 degrees out by the early afternoon. Then a storm blew in that evening and the temperature dropped to about 20 degrees by 9PM. It proceeded to snow nearly a foot. The weather in Radford varies wildly and the weather forecasts are not a good way to determine what the weather will be like.

Generally though, the summer and early fall months are low humidity with highs in the 80s. It is pretty comfortable even with no climate control indoors. There will occasionally be a scorching humid day. Then in mid to late fall we don't really have a gradual decline in temperature. One week the temperature will plunge and it will be freezing outside. The wind chill and low temperatures in combination with one another can cause temperatures to drop below 0. After an "arctic" winter the spring follows with rainy days and generally chilly weather. Overall though, the weather is comfortable as long as you bring all your clothes you can prepare for those unexpected plunges and peaks in temperatures.

Diversity: It's a White Sea – Radford University is really lacking in this area. It is predominantly white and female at this school. I am sure that every race, creed, color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. attends this school, but it is over 85% white. There are students that are rich and there are also students that come from poverty. Most of the students at Radford express a disinterest and general apathy towards politics and social issues. The area itself leans right on the political spectrum. When I was at Radford I never saw any serious clashes over differing backgrounds. Generally the student body is accepting of other individuals from differing backgrounds.

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
