Off-Campus Housing: The off-campus housing is very nice. The Greenhill apartments are great to live in. They are spaceable and furnished. They are also very clean and nice looking inside and outside.

Overall Experience: I Love My School – When I was first looking at Radford, I was a little weary because it is pretty far from my home town. But once I finally got here, I automatically fell in love. So many people associate this school with partying but what they don't know is that we have amazing Academic Programs. They hire top notch teachers, who genuinely want you to do well. It also doesn't hurt that our campus is absolutely beautiful.

Weather: Living on a Mountain – Since Radford is on a Mountain we do see our fair share of snow. But since out classes are so close in proximity to the dorms it really doesn't make getting to class that difficult or dangerous. Also the campus administrators understand that going out in 4 feet of snow can be difficult and dangerous so sometimes they will delay classes for our safety.

Drug Safety: Drinking Is the More Popular Choice – At Radford you don't see alot of the drinking or drug activity, a lot of it is kept under control and off campus. Radford doesn't have that big of a party scene but with the campus being surrounded by upper class men housing it allows lots of drinking and drug activity. The police force here is fantastic though and genuinely care about your safety and well being.

Weather: The weather is INSANE at Radford. One day it will be 70 and sunny and the next day will be 34 and snowing. Pack all seasons of clothing at all times because you never know what you are going to get.

Transportation: Not Too Bad, but Not the Best – Radford recently added more transportation which is free to students. It goes to Roanoke, VT, and all around Radford. This "freedom" is great especially because it's free to those who show their student I.D.. Unfortunately, the hours are awful. They stop extremely early, and when a student realizes they need something from the store, the bus has already stopped running. With regards to parking, a permit costs $70, which I think is a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, there is NEVER any parking on campus or off. It's awful. In addition, if you do manage to find a spot, you always get a ticket. I have paid almost $200 dollars in tickets this year alone. I understand that tickets are a source of revenue for the school, but I'm already paying $18,000 to attend, so I think it's a joke.

Drug Safety: Hangover 24-7 – The drug and alcohol scene is awful. If you love to party then Radford is for you. Everyone drinks every day of the week. In addition, to alcohol, pot and aderol(spelling?) are heavily used. I do love Radford, but everyone's constant partying is kind of annoying. For example, I had just leave accounting and the girl in front of me was talking to her friend and says "dude, I'm so hung over right now. I drank a whole box of wine last night." Also, it was a Monday. Classy...not.

Scholarships: The financial aid office has a good variety of scholarships listed that you can apply for.

Guys & Girls: Guys and Girls – Everyone reminds me of guys and girls on other college campuses. Normal. Nice. I'm a graduate student off campus so I'm not on campus to really interact with people who are not in my classes.

Overall Experience: Simple and Quaint – Radford has a beautiful, very convenient campus. I enjoyed my freshmen year, however over time I felt Radford to be too small and limited. I wish the campus had more interactive student activities to help the university become more involved. The surrounding scenery is gorgeous and fun to explore.

Campus Dining: Tasty Yet Limited – The major dining hall offers a variety of meals with decent quality. The terrace shops are very reliable and offer a wide array of choices. Overall, there are lots of different options as to where to eat considering the small nature of the campus.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Generally Safe – There has never been an instance where I felt uncomfortable on campus. The security however isn't generally seen around campus. They seem to keep their distance and I rarely see any security on campus or walking around. There are plenty of patrol cars around campus, especially at night.

Parking: For commuting students and faculty parking on campus is pretty easy if you arrive early enough. On campus parking is almost impossible after 10am. On campus students can only park on campus during the weekends, and park further away during the week.

4 College Senior

Computers: Fairly Reliable Wifi – Radford University features a reliable wireless access throughout campus all year. The network speed and reliability only encounters problems during times of heavy use, such as midterms and finals, but otherwise remains pretty consistent. There are plenty of places to access computers on campus, but having your own is convenient in class.

Overall Experience: overall if i had to choose to do it all over again would have choosen a different school. I wish i knew then how thing would have turned out

2 College Freshman

Parking: Parking for the campus is kinda scarce and you have to walk a long ways to park your car.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Campus Live – Living on campus a Radford University is very convenient to getting anywhere on campus, which only take about 10. The dorms are pretty nice, but all of them do not have air conditioning. The campus has a fairly friendly atmosphere.

4 College Junior

Majors: Education Major – I've never had an internship before. I'm about to go into student teaching next semester. We will not be paid, but we will learn so much from our cooperating teacher. It's all about the learning experience and learn from mistakes. Right now, we're being prepared by learning how to make effective lesson plans, learning how to teach different subjects, doing professional work such as read-alouds, conferences, etc.

Facilities: Deaf Education – Radford University is the only university in the state of Virginia that has a Deaf Education program (which is what I'm majoring in). I love that RU offers this program, and our advisor is crazy dedicated to her students. I hope that the school gets more attention for this program, and I hope other schools open a Deaf Education program.

Facilities: Always Something to Do – Radford University has a student center where everybody usually goes to hangout- the "Bonnie". The Bonnie has several different food joints, bowling, movie theatre, ping pong tables, billiards tables, and more. RU also has a big athletic center that is always clean, a big library (and I LOVE the study rooms and the coffee shop) and a couple gyms. Also, it's really interesting to go into the science building to the planetarium, the fossil/dinosuar exhibit, etc. There is always something to do on campus!

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: The financial aid services have been very helpful here

Campus Strictness: I am a transfer student and first semester Freshman and I was disappointed when I was told that I couldn't participate in Rush this semester because I transferred in with only 6 out of 12 credits that I needed.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: Greek Life: Get Involved – In order to ensure the best college experience- pledge a fraternity or sorority. Greek life is HUGE at Radford. They're always involved with fun activities on and off campus, so the members are never bored. Plus, it's nice having a sisterhood or brotherhood of 70+ people who have your back no matter what.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Radford University is what each student makes of it. We have a broad spectrum of students here, ranging from studious nerds to partying alcoholics. Anyone can find a crowd of kids to hang out with who are just like them.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Go With Your Gut – The police force here can be absolutely ridiculous and ruthless depending on the night/time of year. They just received a grant to expand so they're literally everywhere you turn. On an average weekend, at least half of the parties will get broken up and shut down. If a party is getting loud and rowdy, you might want to call it a night before law enforcement does. Luckily, we still manage to have a good time!!

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
