2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: I am a transfer student and first semester Freshman and I was disappointed when I was told that I couldn't participate in Rush this semester because I transferred in with only 6 out of 12 credits that I needed.

3 College Freshman

Facilities: Greek Life: Get Involved – In order to ensure the best college experience- pledge a fraternity or sorority. Greek life is HUGE at Radford. They're always involved with fun activities on and off campus, so the members are never bored. Plus, it's nice having a sisterhood or brotherhood of 70+ people who have your back no matter what.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Radford University is what each student makes of it. We have a broad spectrum of students here, ranging from studious nerds to partying alcoholics. Anyone can find a crowd of kids to hang out with who are just like them.

2 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: Go With Your Gut – The police force here can be absolutely ridiculous and ruthless depending on the night/time of year. They just received a grant to expand so they're literally everywhere you turn. On an average weekend, at least half of the parties will get broken up and shut down. If a party is getting loud and rowdy, you might want to call it a night before law enforcement does. Luckily, we still manage to have a good time!!

3 College Junior

Weather: Radford has very cold winds and it snows mulitple times. However, classes rarely get cancelled which makes it hard to walk in the few feet of snow. However, once the weather warms up, students love to spend time outdoors!

1 College Junior

Parking: Parking on campus can be a long and frustrating experience. When going to class, I must leave 20 minutes early just to get a parking space. There are no residental parking lots on campus at all! However, faculty parking has many lots.

3 College Junior

Campus Dining: Radford has a wide variety of food selections in the dining hall. The food ranges from pizza and fries to a salad and sandwich. However, i wish there were more helthy options in the dining hall. Other than a salad, the healthy vegetables are slim.

5 College Freshman

Facilities: Social Scene – Radford is a group of students with a desire to learn. The students also are friendly showing the southern hospitality that the small town of Radford has taught them.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Weather is not too bad however I work sometimes until closing and it can be awfully cold at 12am.

3 College Freshman

Parking: There is plenty of parking at Radford however if you live in the dorms it could be a mile or more walk to your car.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Getting It Started – i like who im becoming, people like me, i like myself, i even feel closer to my faith. these i think are directly stemming from radford activities like the Hillel and my classes and classmates who are the best people around. radford is making me a better person period.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Easy on the Eyes – everything is clean and well maintained, inviting, easily accessible and homey. there is actually quite a few wonderful sculptures scattered around. not overt or ostentatious but pleasantly nestled so as just to grab the eye. i absolutely love this! the sports facilites are well maintained and sanitary, and the grass is always cared for. there is some dedicated custodian somewhere who deserves a raise and to be thanked.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: Music Education – here at radford the music department is really very tight, i live with the same people i am in classes and ensembles with, and my best friends are music majors. dont misunderstand me when i say this but its a very adult environment, everybody is here to work and to be the absolute best that they can be, (excuse the cliche') and because of that solidarity of purpose there is time aplenty for fun. the professors know their stuff and i must say this, i know lots of my peers who aspire to be like their professors and even to exceed them. i havent run across that sort of respect in other fields. in short its a fantastic program that doesnt get enough credit

2 College Sophomore

Parking: I literally have to walk 2 miles to get to the student parking area

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Not So Diverse – Radford University is a place where the rich kids of northern virginia come and gather to have a grand old time spending daddy's money and making a mockery out of the institution. However, in my degree I meet many wonderfully diverse individuals who so willingly accept one into their environment.

4 College Junior

Facilities: Beautiful Campus – Radford University is a beautiful campus with great facilities for studying, dining etc. The social scene at Radford is a unique one and can be plenty of fun. Named by Princeton Review as one of the best schools in the southeast, the academic programs at Radford are second to none.

2 College Junior

Parking: One of the cons of Radford University is poor parking. Often crowded at times and practically unavailable. Radford does offer public transportation free for students.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Radford offers a variety of affordable off-campus housing. Most are relatively close to campus and are within walking distance. Radford also offers a public transportation service that is free for students.

3 College Sophomore

Facilities: facilities are close by as the campus is small. My classes would be so close that if I had 30 minutes before class, I can just get to my dorm in 2minutes take a 15-18minute break and still stroll to class on time. I like the school, it meets my needs.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Our athletics are pretty good but i wish we had a football team! all other sports are really great though! and our rugby team is pretttty good so thats fun to watch.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: Dining Options – Our dining options are okay. The first couple of weeks its good but you just get sick of it very quickly. but Au Bon Pain is a great place to eat and Dalton hall is a great if you like buffet type style food.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: They notify us when there is an emergency very quickly but they should be more concerned with catching criminals that we have had on campus rather than arresting drunk students. We have had, on multiple accounts rape and attempted rape of female students this year.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Some Greeks – There are some Greeks on campus, but not too much.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: My tuition is being paid for by scholarships, and plenty are available. I have had no issues with the financial aid office

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Glad I Transferred – I love being at Radford. I transferred here after my freshman year, and I am so glad I did. Playing club softball has made me some of the best friends I have ever had. RU has become my home with my second family

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
