Computers: Although RU has many computers available for students to use, the internet speed is slow. The university also sponsors the Lenovo brand computers and require many students to purchase the expensive brand that are not liked by many students for several reasons. 1. they are heavy and is a burden to take to class. 2. the battery life does not last long for the $1300 laptop. 3. although i was required to have this laptop, I have yet used it for anything special.

Campus Strictness: Radford University is strict on abiding the honor code and highly enforces the "no plagarism" policy. Additionally, Radford University is a dry campus so no alcohol is allowed on campus period. If you are caught you will have a meeting with the dean to explain the incident. The dean will decide after the meeting your consequence which could include suspension from RU.

Majors: I am very happy with the sports medicine program. I chose this program so I can go to grad school to get my doctorate in physical therapy, like most students in this major. They will tell you multiple times that this undergrad degree does not get you a job though.

4 College Junior

Majors: The transition from community college into my program of sports medicine was very easy. Most students have to apply into the program with a 3.0+ gpa to take the classes but our department head helped us transfer students get into any of the classes we needed.

4 College Junior

Majors: Most of the same students in every class; Teachers in the department are very nice and great at their jobs.

3 College Junior

Diversity: The majority of my classes are off campus, but I did have one semester on campus and I would have to say that it's a total mix of races. Black, white, Japanese, and other Asian/European cultures. Most students on campus were in the young 20's but some older students as well.

Facilities: Student life on campus at Radford University is perfect for a college experience. Everything you need, such as medical assistance, technological assistance, or counseling assistance is made avaliable to you free of charge. Such programs and events offered on campus, are new movies, free of charge, concerts, arts and crafts, or fitness classes. Overall, the quads offer great outdoor enviornments.

Diversity: Although Radford has mainly little diversity, it is still present. The community consists mainly of white ethinicity, however there is ethnic diversity, such as african americans, asians and so on. Political beliefs and religions can widely vary depending on where one comes from. However, the campus offers clubs such as a Jewish club and a Democratic club. Also, the campus offers a club for gays, straights and lesbians. So although there is diversity among the campus, it is accepted and makes for a better schooling enviornment.

Academics: I am currently a Religion major with an Anthropology minor and I have been satisfied with all the courses and professors I have taken so far. For Radford, the class sizes tend to be smaller which can be extremely helpful as a learning enviornment, because there is more one on one with the teachers. This one on one is particularly enjoyable at Radford, because the professors of are extremely understanding and kind. On top of this, they are also intelligent and know how to teach.

Local Atmosphere: There are a lot of fun people and places to hang out

Weather: it rains a lot, and there are a lot of snowy/cold days as well as icy days in the winter

Greek Life: I had nnever really known about greek life untill I actually came to college and I thought they were the really big party people. Granted they do party alot, they have alot of study and work to do as well. They actually do alot of good things like road clean ups and other things that help out the environment. Most people say it was the best decision thye ever made.

Facilities: The entire campus is pretty to look at. Plenty of open spaces to throw frisbee, lounge, or study outside. Buildings are clean and well kept.

Scholarships: Keep at It. I am currently out of state and in Radford's newest doctorate program, so my financial aid experience was predictably bumpy. I called financial aid office many times and emailed to clear up any issues I was having. Although they were not too quick about it, my problems were resolved eventually. Also, the staff is friendly and courteous.

Local Atmosphere: The Mountains! If you're into the outdoors, then you will never be bored. While there is a small college town scene (grill & bar, ice cream, sushi, theater), scenic views are only a small drive away. There are parks, the New River, and numerous hikes to satisfy your "Man vs Wild" desires.

Drug Safety: Greek life is prominent at Radford, so alcohol is naturally a popular beverage. However, if you avoid this chapter of Radford, then it won't be an issue.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: High quality for smaller size! Radford is one of the smaller public universities in Virginia. However, the campus is very well kept and quite attractive. The bookstore and dining areas are state-of-the-art, with sleek walkways and common areas.

4 College Senior

Computers: Wifi, Wifi Everywhere. The whole campus is wireless, and there are computer labs in all the main buildings. I would bring your own laptop and printer, though, since printing can get expensive.

3 College Senior

Transportation: Bring a Car! Radford's shuttle service is pretty new, so there are still some things to work out. You really should bring a car or arrange to carpool with friends if you want to go far off campus.

3 College Senior

Facilities: Never Boring – Life is never dull at Radford! There are always events on the calendar, the library is great, and the Bonnie is always busy!

4 College Senior

Facilities: Radford has some great facilities and is currently renovating and expanding. The new science building is going to be fantastic!

Guys & Girls: Radford is full of attractive girls and guys. I have had no trouble meeting attractive people on campus, not all of them are the brightest (thats the reason for the -) but they are attractive. Do realize that if you aren't from around here Radford or Roanoke area, it may take a little while to get used to the southern accents.

Local Atmosphere: Good Times – The school offers many different activites to do on campus and there is always different things to be involved in. Radford is a small town with lots to offer. You will get to know a lot of people in the area, its safe and fun. Also in Blacksburg is Virginia Tech, about 20 minutes away, Tech is always a fun palce to visit for sports and the people of Tech always come to have a good time at Radford.

Off-Campus Housing: College Town – Landlords can be a bit unreasonable, places aren't as nice as they could be, and parking is typically limited; but it's a college town and is understandable.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: The facilities on campus are great. There are always activities going on and places to study/hang out/use computers.

Radford University offers an incredibly unique experience in a small-town environment. The small size of the University allows for a much more personal connection with the faculty and other students. Professors make it their mission to create an engaging learning environment, going above and beyond when a student makes the effort to ask for help. Professors are more than willing to write recommendations, assist in classroom issues, and be fantastic sounding boards for academic advancement. The goal of Radford academia is to better the students at all costs. The social life is also a bonus of attending such a small school. With a small population, the majority of students knows one another fairly well. They party together, go to classes together, and spend quality time together during campus activities. The nightlife is a legend among the colleges of Virginia, and the parties are incredible. But, even if you don't like to drink until you can't stand up, there are plenty of things to do like bowling, playing pool or pingpong, or checking out a movie.

The town of Radford is small, but within miles of several hot spots for action. Virginia Tech is 15 minutes away, Roanoke is less than an hour, and there are several mountainous hiking trails and camping areas nearby. What it boils down to is that Radford University is a "what you make of it" experience. If students put in the effort to go to class and engage in out-of-class activities, their time at Radford will be incredible. The friends you make will be lasting connections that continue long after graduation. At the start of college, every student is handed the opportunity to make something great out of their experience, and Radford provides many tools along the way to help students ensure it is worthwhile.
