Facilities: Location Is the Best. The school being in such a big city as Portland makes it so unique because you are so close to everything and can take the max rail to see sporting events or concerts without having to travel far.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Smoking the Biggest Issue – There is not much of a drug scene at Portland State, yes students do drink but they do it at bars or clubs. Usually there are a lot of people smoking where it is allowed

Health & Safety: A Unique Campus – Portland State's campus is a very unique campus that offers various activities to be done. It is a very green school that is very aware of reusable energy and a very clean well maintained campus. The only problem is being able to find parking, but overall it is a great campus

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Parking is pretty hard to find, even if you do pay for the expensive parking pass. The public transportation is really good in the area, so most of the time, you don't need to drive at all.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I have really enjoyed working with the professors in the Criminology and Criminal Justice department at PSU. They are all sucessful professionals in the field and offer an interesting perspective on how theories relate to the real world.

Facilities: Campus Is Beautiful – The campus at Portland State University is one of the best I have ever seen. It is located in the heart of downtown Portland and everything around is, to put it simply, awesome. I do not know much about the school itself, but what I do know is that the campus is one of the best in the country. And with their emphasis on being green and enviromentally friendly makes it even better.

Facilities: Downtown Portlandia Park Blocks – The Park Blocks of the city make fro an oddly laid out sprawling campus with down-town businesses interspersed with food-carts, and classes. It has the least enjoyable Japanese program I know of.

Nightlife: Middle of Downtown Partytown – PSU is in the downtown Park Blocks of Portland. Within the free rail zone that is down-town, so you don't need to worry about traffic and parking for your night out. The school is in walking distance, or short train-hop of the Museum, Library, strip-clubs, Safeway, bars galore and Ground Kontrol, Portland's Super fun Bar-cade.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Different from Community College – Definitely a change of pace from community college. I find that people here are less stupid since you actually have to work at applying to a university and also with the amount of people you seem to run into less of them.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Wide Range – You see a wide range of types of men and women on campus. They vary in age as well as looks and everyone is fairly expressive in their looks.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: College Housing Northwest allows me to stay off campus but still be a ten minute walk to class. They're priced alright and are in downtown Portland and also across the bridge to allow for the center of downtown feel as well as a in downtown but not right in the middle.

4 College Freshman

Parking: Parking at PSU for free is a painful process for those that are commuting to campus especially during the day. Students are usually expected to get a parking permit for about $300. The parking structures are not heavily secured as theft is a big problem that the school does not address. The school newspaper stated that fines are constantly given without a reasonable consent.

3 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The Resident Assistant – The resident assistants (RA) throughout the campus can be either strict or lenient. The strict resident assistant may write you up for being noisy during quiet hours. The strict RA can constantly checking the floor for any suspicious activities. The lenient RA's usually let things get out of control. The floor with the lenient RA's are usually loud and there is constant smuggling of alcohol into the floor. The lenient RA's also turn a blind eye for their favorites and usually take part in breaking the rules that the campus enforces.

Facilities: The campus rec center is newly built with an indoor pool, a place to lift weights and 3 courts that can be used for basketball, soccer, volleyball, or even alternate sports such as table tennis and badminton. There is also a 24 hour access computer lab for students that need the whole night to finish their school work. The students also love to go to the writing center and the tutoring center for help that they need with their homework.

2 College Junior

Greek Life: I Dont Really Know – From what i understand of Greek life, it is a small but very active group on campus.

2 College Junior

Athletics: Academics Is Still King – PSU is not like OSU or U of O in its obsession with sports. Most students here tend to be more concerned with academic activities than with athletics. There is however a decent system of intramural sports, ranging from baseball to medieval combat. PSU recently invested in building a high quality recreation center for students to exercise and participate in sports.

5 College Junior

Diversity: This Is Portland! As I stated above, this is Portland. As such the PSU student body is a true tossed salad of ideas, races, national origins and sexual orientations. Respect for diversity of all types is stressed in an unspoken social contract which guarantees all people the right to express themselves for who they are and what they believe.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Better Than Most – I have gone to a few colleges and PSU's financial aid department has been better than most of the colleges I attended. There is a wealth of information online to help students through the process. The steps are outlined and information is put into the online studnet account financial aid section. Plus there are a variety of ways to contact the office. The office has answered all of my questions in a timely manner. And when there are problems, the office keeps good communitcaiton with me and works the problems out quickly. I have only come across one uncooperative employee. I circumvented her by e-mailing the office and the problem was solved.

Transportation: Excellent public transportation system. Reliable, affordable, and networks the entire metro. The system has many routes that go downtown/close to the college. They do not run 24 hours.
Lots of cabs. Easy to catch downtown. Anywhere else you have to call for a pick up.
Driving is mostly hassle free. Rush hour is getting worse each year but still is minor compared to most metros. Commuting from Vancouver is the worst commute. Even though the cost of housing is less in Vancouver, WA, qualtiy of life goes down considerably with the long commute.
Because of the mild weather and addition of bike lanes, biking is a great option in Portland and going to school.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel very safe on this campus. Biking as a means of transportation is common and bike theft is a legitimate concern. Security will be happy to escort you if you ever feel unsafe at night and are a quick phone call away!

4 College Freshman

Academics: Good classes with even work loads. Professors really know their stuff!

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Portland Yummy Restaurants – Portland State University is located near downtown Portland and has a variety of eateries from food carts to convenience stores to cafes to gourmet restaurants. Being a student I go for cost and quality.

4 College Freshman

Computers: Computer Access – I have my own laptop computer, so I don't use the ones at school. I did visit the Computer lab and noticed plenty of computers there.

5 College Student

Weather: the weather is ever changing...somedays its hot, cold, rainy. its a great variety!

4 College Student

Local Atmosphere: The Town – the city of portland is amazing, people are friendly and theres always something to do.
