4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Portland State University does not descriminate any race nor intolerate anyone with different skin color. Greek students are viewed as ordinary students at PSU. They get treated the same way as other students at PSU. Everyone learn and does the same things. No students are better than others nor no one is specially favored. As from what i see, Greek life does not affect the social atomosphere of campus. Based on the average percentage of students living on campus, a lot of Greek students choose to live on dorms than apartments or complexes. PSU campus is a safe environment for everyone not just Greek but others.

Overall Experience: This is my first year of college as a freshman. I finished my first term just two weeks ago. I wasn't so bad after all. I had a really good experience with the campus environment. It was quite a struggle to transition from high school to college environment. Both teaches almost the same materials and concepts except college courses go faster. My school is really unique in a way that i can feel safe and be myself at all time. There are a lot helpful students and professors there. If i could do it all over again, i would choose to go to my school because it's near home, it has good courses and amazing professors, there are a lot of helpful advisers, the environment is satisfying, and it's surrounded by convienient restaurants.

Athletics: The rec center is great and pretty popular. I don't go to football games, but I've heard we're not that good. However, many students do wear PSU gear, including me.

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't live in the dorms, and I'm assuming that is where the majority of drugs are used.

College Sophomore

Nightlife: I don't participate in nightlife on/near campus.

College Sophomore

Greek Life: I don't live on campus so I rarely hear anything about Greek life. Recruiters are usually at club fairs and such, but I really don't know anything about it.

2 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I do not receive any financial aid beyond the loans I was offered from FAFSA. However, these loans don't cover my costs. I constantly have to come up with large amounts of money to pay off each term. I'm not sure how everyone else is getting a surplus amount of financial aid. There are scholarships that are offered, but I haven't managed to get any through the school yet.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: We get 500 free prints per term, which is plenty for me. A bonus is that color printing is also available. There are many computer labs on campus, but most of them fill up very quickly depending on the time of day. I rarely need to bring my personal laptop to campus. I only really need it when working on group projects outside of class. Wifi is available and usually fast and reliable.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: My major is Environmental Studies. So far the curriculum is challenging, but not overly difficult. The school itself strives to be green too. I often get emails from the ESM department with notices of internship and job opportunities.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I find that many of my classes discuss topics that connect or overlap with my other classes. Most of the professors I've had have been great. Searching for classes could be improved; it can be a bit difficult finding specific courses.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: People from out of state may see it as a downside because it rains a lot, but I love the weather. The weather has no negative bearing on my campus experience.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: The students are pretty diverse. I find most people to be very accepting of other's beliefs, ethnicity, etc...

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The students are very diverse. I suppose I would say that many of the guys are 'hipsters'. The majority of people are friendly and nice.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Dining: A bit spendy, options are alright

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: They are very fast at sending out the campus safety alert emails when a crime is reported or when a suspect is on the loose. There are also those "push for assistance" beacons placed around campus.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Strictness: It doesn't seem very strict. I don't live on campus, so I can't say the same about the dorms.

College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I don't know much about it. I haven't heard much about drug use beyond marijuana.

4 College Sophomore

Nightlife: I don't know much about the underage night life but there are tons of bars that are easily accessible by streetcar.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Housing is very expensive. Your best bet would be to look in the suburbs and commute.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: It's Portland so you can expect rain in the winter but it's rarely below freezing. It's the perfect weather for reading, seeing an art house film, or enjoying coffee at a nearby cafe. The summers and springs here are magical though. The park blocks are the place to be! Everything is green and blossoming an it's mostly sunny. Lots of hiking and exploring and farmer's markets to enjoy. Fall on campus is gorgeous too.

College Sophomore

Athletics: I don't get involved with the athletics much. I know we have a football team but I couldn't tell you much more than that...

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Portland is a foodie paradise! There are tons of food trucks and little cafes to choose from. Your taste buds will never be bored.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: The Maseeh College has great computer labs. Definitely use them if you can. If you can't, you'll want your own computer. The library computer lab gets very busy. As a Computer Science major, a personal computer has been essential.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I'm a Computer Science major and the Maseeh College offers a lot of assistance in finding paid internships and jobs. I'm currently working as an intern and I'm finding the experience very rewarding. They are very flexible with my schedule and it's paid. I work 24 hours a week. I'm very optimistic about my job outlook after graduation. There are also TA positions available but they can be very selective.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: I'm absolutely happy with my program. I intend to pursue a PhD in Bioinformatics at OHSU, so a degree in computer science will be a huge help for me. I do wish there were more classes related to Genetics and Bioinformatics offered at the undergrad level. I'm very optimistic about job possibilities with a BS in Computer Science in this region as there are many tech companies here. I absolutely would complete this program again.
