Campus Strictness: As long as you go to class and do well you'll be fine. If you party, then as long as you don't get transported or make stupid decisions, you'll stay out of trouble.

4 College Freshman

Campus Strictness: The school is not that strict. Of course, you will be in trouble if you get caught, but as long as you're smart about everything, you'll be fine. It's really not that bad. The Residence Assistants are very chill for the most part.

Campus Strictness: You're never going to have a problem with administration unless you're really dumb and obscenely obvious or disturbing others.

Campus Strictness: Campus security generally doesn't go out seeking students to get in trouble. In fact, they're there to help. If they see someone struggling to get home or passed out, they will check out the person themselves to determine if they need medical attention or if they just need to go home. I believe the policy is that if you are sent to the hospital with alcohol poisoning, then you will be required to go talk to the dean of students and probably end up with assigned hours of community service. The only time that administration is more strict is during dry week at the beginning of the year, and if caught, I believe it can lead to loss of housing. However, during the year the RAs are generally lenient unless they receive noise complaints.

The campus strictness at Pitzer College is very lenient, much to the students' liking. There are rules, but if they are broken, students don't get into much trouble. The ResLife (Residence Life) staff is typically very understanding, allowing students to get away with a lot of rule-breaking. But, at Pitzer, these rules generally revolve around underage drinking and carrying open containers of alcohol. As is true on any college campus, many Pitzer students who drink are underage. As long as the students keep the noise to a minimum and do not leave their rooms with alcohol, there really is no problem surrounding this issue. Campus security (Camp Sec) is available to students during their time of need, but officers do not interfere with parties. The staff is friendly, and as long as you don't provoke them, you should be able to get away with most things. Pitzer students, though, don't do much to instigate trouble and therefore do not abuse the leniency of Pitzer staff.

Pitzer faculty members each have their own respective policies when it comes to attendance in class. Usually, students are allowed up to three absences per semester, but this also depends on the professor. Some are very flexible, while others strictly abide by their own rules—the strictest being that your overall grade will drop with each missed class after your allowed absences have been used. Overall, other than a few exceptions, Pitzer has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the staff and administration are generally very lenient. Pitzer students don't come to the College to make trouble; rather, they know what their limits are and do not do anything that normal college students wouldn't do.

Facts & Statistics

Students Are Most Likely to Get Caught...
  • Being loud
  • Illegally downloading music and movies
  • Parking illegally
  • Smoking weed
  • Underage drinking/carrying an open container of alcohol
Visitation Policies
Friends are allowed to spend the night if you contact your resident assistant and fill out a form acknowledging the guest's presence on campus. Both you and your guest must sign the form, stating that you are responsible for anything having to do with your guest. However, this is a very lenient rule, as most students do not go through this process and the RA is none the wiser.
