Health & Safety: When I was out late at night on Claremont McKenna's campus for a job, I always got campus escorts to take me home if I walked, or to bike with me if I biked.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Honestly, when I was a first year (now I am a senior), I used to walk at sometimes 3 or 4 a.m. from Pomona's campus to Pitzer's and not feel scared, and I'm from LA! But due to some recent events, I feel a little worrisome. Overall, I still feel safe because I am always prepared and because it is still my home.

Niche User

Health & Safety: As a male, safety on campus is fine.

Niche User

Health & Safety: I don't walk off the Pitzer campus by myself at night. I am consistently paranoid that my car will be broken into. I don't lock my room because I live with people I know I can trust, but I do lock my computer to my desk just in case.

Niche User

Health & Safety: There have been some security issues this year, but still, as a female, I feel safe walking around by myself at 4 a.m. Security is rarely present, which is actually really nice if you want to get away with breaking certain harmless rules.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Security is pretty lax, and it needs improvement.

Niche User

Health & Safety: While the security on campus is not all that great, I still feel safe in this area.

Niche User

Health & Safety: I feel very safe here. I am never afraid to walk alone, plus you can call campus security to escort you anywhere you want.

Niche User

Health & Safety: I feel safe on the campus, and I walk back to my dorm alone late at night and early in the morning frequently without any trouble. In general, I think that security is all right, but I wish there were more emergency lights on Pitzer's campus.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Security is pretty good. I've never felt unsafe and never had anything stolen.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Since Claremont is a sleepy place most of the time, you can walk around and generally feel safe. Just be careful calling campus safety because they can take a long time to respond if they don't think it's an emergency.

Niche User

Health & Safety: The campus is pretty secure, but it all depends on how safe you make it for yourself. It is important to remember that the Claremont Colleges are still part of the larger world. I mentor first-year students, and I tell them to lock their doors when they leave their hall.

Niche User

Health & Safety: As with any college or university, Pitzer and the Claremont Colleges have their share of issues. In general, it is safe to walk around during the day or night and campus safety is a present and visual sight. There are also safety call boxes throughout campus and student escorts several nights a week if you need a ride.

Niche User

Health & Safety: Except for CMC, a nearby sister college, the five colleges are very safe. Pitzer, in particular, is safe at any hour.

Computers: I have my own computer, but I still use the computer lab to use the scanner, the color printer, and other equipment I don't have. I also like the copy center that can provide still more resources.

Niche User

Computers: I have never had a working computer, and I have written every paper of my career in the lab.

Niche User

Computers: The computer lab is amazing. We have the hottest equipment, and computer labs are only crowded when finals are coming up. Other than that, it's always pretty nice. I still think that people should bring their own computer just because it is more convenient, but honestly, I could have gone my whole college life without a computer of my own.

Niche User

Computers: We have Wi-Fi on campus, so if you have a wireless laptop, you can sit out on the mounds or anywhere and do your work.

Niche User

Computers: It's nice to have a computer in your room, but it is not necessary.

Niche User

Computers: It is great; you call and almost immediately someone shows up at your door to help you troubleshoot. It makes my life a lot easier.

Niche User

Computers: The labs are somewhat spooky at night, so I would bring your own computer, but everything works well.

Niche User

Computers: If you can afford a computer, bring one. If not, then you're not at a disadvantage. The main computer lab is hardly ever completely full, and if you know how to use a Mac, then even better because no one ever uses the Mac lab.

Niche User

Computers: It's incredibly helpful to have your own computer, especially during midterms and finals when the computer lab gets really busy, but there are computers available if a personal computer isn't available.

Niche User

Computers: The server is constantly crashing or having `updates' that take hours. For some reason, the administration feels that midnight is a good time to reboot the server. Of course, college students never write papers or do research at midnight; we're all asleep by then.

Niche User

Computers: There is no need to bring your own computer. Pitzer is a relatively small campus, and the computer lab is a short walk away from all the dorms. In Mead, there are two computers available for use 24 hours a day. When its crunch time, the lab is generally full, but there are usually computers available, both Mac and PC. The 5C library also has quite a few computers, but they close down at night.

Pitzer is a truly wonderful place filled with people who want to make a difference and embrace change. There does not exist one specific Pitzer student; rather, once on campus, you will be welcomed by a myriad of different personalities, opinions, and likes and dislikes. If there were to be a general consensus about the students at Pitzer, it would be that they are driven individuals who seek to make the world a better place. But Pitzer students could not do what they do alone. The student body is a reflection of a much bigger entity: the faculty, staff, administration, groundskeepers, dining hall workers, and everyone else who makes a contribution to the school help to unify it and make it the amazing place the students know it as today. The school has grown so much, and it has only been around since 1963! One can only imagine what immense changes are to come.

Most students enjoy their time at Pitzer and the Claremont Consortium as a whole, though some common complaints include the cost, the lack of school spirit, and the pretty tame party scene. If you look past all of this, though, you will inevitably see that being given the chance to study at Pitzer is the opportunity of a lifetime. Pitzer is not your average higher education institution; it offers unique opportunities such as traveling with your professor to do research or working closely with the administration to make the school the place you want it to be. You may come here for an education, but in reality, you're going to walk away with a whole lot more.
