Drug Safety: Drug Scene – If you're into smoking and drinking, you can absolutely engage in those activities in a peer-pressure free setting. Everything is fun and relaxed. If you're not into that there's a place for you too.

Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe of Pitzer's campus. Using common sense is key when taking care of your belongings, just like at any other school. And if there ever was a safety issue I am confident that I would be in great hands going to Campus Security.

Computers: The Need for Personal Computer or Printer – In college, the need for a personal computer is very high. Everyone I know has their own personal computer because the professors are always assigning papers or articles to read online and no one wants to live in the computer lab just to get their homework done. Personal printers are not necessary but they do help. We get print credit at the lab at the beginning of each semester, which is really nice, but it runs out pretty quickly, especially if you have to print really long readings for class.

Overall Experience: Overall, Great School – Lots of independence academically and socially, great academic options for such a small school since it's connected to 4 others, and great weather!

Transportation: Bikes Are Great, but It's the Suburbs of LA: Get a Friend With a Car – I bike everywhere and that works really well unless you want to go outside of the village/campus area, then you need a car... or you can spend an hour on a very infrequent and inefficient train to LA and take buses from there.

Facilities: Awesome Bike Shop, Garden, and Student-Run Cafe – Student center, gym, and library resources are okay, but there are other great assets of the school you won't find other places, like the student run bike co-op, the organic-local student run restaurant, the grove house and the organic student-run garden

Diversity: Very Well Rounded Campus – Pitzer college is the most diverse campus among the 5C's, the student body comes from every walk of life and from all parts of the country/world.

Off-Campus Housing: Beautiful Apartments!! As a transfer, I was granted off campus housing that was arranged through the school. They set us up at a beautiful apartment complex that reminds me more of a resort. They are luxury apartments with your basic college furniture provided. There is private security on the apartment grounds, and the apartments are about .4 mile away from Pitzer dinning hall (about a 5 min bike ride, though a small amount of it is up hill). If you don't have a bike, the Green Bike program can hook you up with one for free, or you can just walk... its not far at all.

Off-Campus Dining: Quick Meals at an Afforable Price! In Claremont there is a variety of different food choices to choose from, all at reasonable prices! My favorite is a beautiful Thai food restaurant nearby and Yogurt-Land; both amazing. Studying late and don't fell like leaving your room? Some of the nearby restaurants offer free delivery until 1:00 am!!

Transportation: Pitzer and the 5Cs are so small that everyone just gets around by biking and walking usually. The only public transportation around is the Metrolink in the Village, which is good for getting into LA and the surrounding area.

Drug Safety: Lots of Drinking and Drugs – Pitzer is known as a stoner school and it usually lives up to that reputation. There are also people who don't smoke, however. Alcohol is also quite prevalent, but not unlike any other university.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: most Pitzer students aren't very interested in the sports

Guys & Girls: Guys are limited – There are far fewer guys than girls at Pitzer. and the selection can be limiting. Luckily we have the rest of the Claremont colleges to pick from.

Campus Dining: Seven Dining Halls, All Great! Students can eat at all seven dining halls around the five colleges. All of them are far above the average college dining hall food quality.

4 College Sophomore

Facilities: Pitzer has a great pool, decent gym, and fantastic aesthetics. Student art is allowed on buildings. Walking across the street to the other four campuses brings many more resources: Well-equipped gyms, beautiful libraries, etc.

4 College Sophomore

Computers: There's great wireless access all over, and Ethernet in all rooms, too. Computer labs have plenty of Microsoft and Mac computers.

Off-Campus Dining: The Village – Pitzer students are very lucky in that the best places to eat off campus are within walking distance. The Village is about a 15 minute walk from the Pitzer dorms through the rest of the 5C campus. For the exception of a Starbucks and a Jamba Juice, every dining option is local any really good! There's everything from Greek to Indian to Thai to Japanese to name a few.

Drug Safety: Weed is the big one here. You'll smell it almost every night. Alcohol is usually confined to the dorms so it's less noticeable. There's really no pressure to do any of thes,e but you better get used to the smell weed.

Diversity: I know Pitzer has a reputation as a kind-of Hippie school (you will find them here, but not a lot like you'd think) but there actually is a good diversity of people on campus. If you're a liberal they have that. If you're conservative they have that. If you're gay, lesbian, or transgender they have that too. As far as religion goes it's not talked much about here. Lot's of Jewish people though. A mostly Caucasian ethnic make up with Asians coming in at a close second. Hispanics and Blacks are definitely few and far between though. All in all it's a very accepting place with a laid back atmosphere.

Off-Campus Housing: Very Nice – I'm only a freshman, but I've been to the off-campus housing. It's beautiful, especially the College Park area.

Academics: Psychology Majors Have a Lot of Options – At Pitzer, the psych professors are excellent and very accessible--it's clearly one of the best-supported majors.

4 College Junior

Academics: Lots of Support, Lots of Options – The professors are extremely accessible, and there's a lot of support available. The pool of classes and majors is nearly endless since you can take classes at the other Claremont Colleges and even major in subjects Pitzer doesn't offer.

Local Atmosphere: Stay in Claremont or Go West – Claremont is a very nice, quaint suburb, but a lot of the surrounding area is pretty bad. Don't go east, don't do much in Pomona--generally stay west and there's a lot to do, provided you have a car.

2 College Junior

Transportation: Car Recommended If You're Going Anywhere Far – It's Southern California, so everyone drives. Still, you can get into LA using the Metrolink provided you don't need a car in LA (which you will).

Athletics: A bit less school spirit with sports since Pitzer sort of piggybacks on Pomona's teams, which aren't that great in the first place. Baseball is stronger than most other sports, but no one's going to the Pitzer for competitive athletics.

Pitzer is a truly wonderful place filled with people who want to make a difference and embrace change. There does not exist one specific Pitzer student; rather, once on campus, you will be welcomed by a myriad of different personalities, opinions, and likes and dislikes. If there were to be a general consensus about the students at Pitzer, it would be that they are driven individuals who seek to make the world a better place. But Pitzer students could not do what they do alone. The student body is a reflection of a much bigger entity: the faculty, staff, administration, groundskeepers, dining hall workers, and everyone else who makes a contribution to the school help to unify it and make it the amazing place the students know it as today. The school has grown so much, and it has only been around since 1963! One can only imagine what immense changes are to come.

Most students enjoy their time at Pitzer and the Claremont Consortium as a whole, though some common complaints include the cost, the lack of school spirit, and the pretty tame party scene. If you look past all of this, though, you will inevitably see that being given the chance to study at Pitzer is the opportunity of a lifetime. Pitzer is not your average higher education institution; it offers unique opportunities such as traveling with your professor to do research or working closely with the administration to make the school the place you want it to be. You may come here for an education, but in reality, you're going to walk away with a whole lot more.
