5 College Sophomore

Diversity: Everyone accepts everyone for who they are and not what they like. Nobody really asks or cares abot each other's economic status.

1 College Freshman

Diversity: There is almost no diversity on campus. Life style is one way. It's all about only a particular group of people

3 College Freshman

Diversity: Philander Smith College is an HBCU so the majority of the students are African Americans. However, there are also a few white people that are treated just like everyone else, we also have Asians, a whole lot of African and Caribbeans. In terms of sexual orientation, there are a lot of gay people especially lesbians here on campus, they are allowed the same right as everyone else. Economic background wise, majority are of the middle and lower class level, it offers a lot of financial aid (about 96% have some sort of financial aid) so the school is relatively cheap and more accessible for middle and lower class men. In terms of Political beliefs, we are an HBCU so expect that everyone here is for Obama, I haven't met anyone who said they liked Romney. Generally, we are very accepting.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: The majority of the college students are black but the professors are all sorts of different races. There are students from Ghana and the Bahamas that I have met this year already. Clearly this school recruits heavy in urban areas all over the country because I have met students from Denver, CO, Chicago, IL, Detroit, MI, St.Louis, MO, Los Angeles, California and so on.

3 College Junior

Diversity: It's Not up to Par – I do believe that Philander has handful of close-minded students. My first year I was known as the "white girl" or the "weird chick" because of my taste in music and the way I was dressed. I feel like, there needs to be more diversity so that the classroom discussions challenge people. And so people can have a more cultural experience. I have many hispanic friends, and here on campus I hear a lot about "dem mexicans" that is no where near the truth. So I think we could be a bit more diverse.
