Greek Life: I am not a greek really because i am in a business frat but im pretty into all the fraternities and stuff. They are pretty cool, you will always have your frat stars but most are chill. Sorority girls are always a good time

Guys & Girls: Girls are great in the valley, you can find any type of girl so it really all depends on what you like.

Weather: It gets crazy weather wise, snows all the time if not its raining cats and dogs. Dont even dream of school being cancelled.

Off-Campus Housing: There are lots of variety. However, the cost can be very diversed.

Drug Safety: Since Penn State is located in the suburban, there is not many things to go. Thus, drinking becomes a big event. However, there are many underage drinking. For drugs, it is not that common, though it exists.

Athletics: Penn State has many outstanding athletics. Penn State football stadium is the second largest one in the states. Even you do not understand football, you should definitely go and experience the atmosphere. Moreover, Penn State has 4 gyms for athletics.

Weather: Welcome to Pennsylvania and a temperate climate. The weather shifts with the seasons. It can be in the 80s and 90s during the Summer and early Fall. During the winter it can be very cold. One day with wind chill it was -9 degrees in the winter. If you are looking for sun year round, do not come to any college in Pennsylvania.

Campus Housing: There are many diverse options available to Penn State students. If you are a freshman I would suggest living in East. The location is not great, the dorms are some of the worst on campus, but you will be housed with only freshmen which makes it easy to make friends. I knew everyone on my 35 person floor by the middle of the fall semester. If you are interested there are also special living options. These options put people of the same majors or groups together. For example there is one for ROTC students, one for women in engineering, and many others. It is worth looking up. Just be cognizant that when you go into your sophomore year if you want to live on campus you need to put in for a housing lottery between November and January. Basically people are selected at random to see if you get an on campus contract. I was lucky enough to get one, but a lot of people I know did not. To increase your chances pair with someone you know. You are not required to live with him or her, and it increases your chances of getting a contract two fold.

Drug Safety: I would say the number one drug at Penn State has to be Alcohol. And since it is easily available and at nearly every party, the cops out here make a living arresting people for DUI/underage consumption. Ive never seen or been offered any 'hard' drugs, but I have said no to marijuana on several occasions which would lead me to believe there is not a major drug scene at my school.

Facilities: Student life on campus at Penn State is amazing. There is a multi-level, state of the art student center where dozens of the hundreds of available student clubs convene daily, multiple gyms including 3 weight training facilites, 2 indoor pools, an indoor track, and countless hardwood basketball courts. Outside there are countless tennis courts, a swimming pool, a full size track, and soccer fields. The adjoining Patee and Paterno Libraries offer students access to hundreds of computers, many different study lounges and sections for students in different fields, and an infinite amount of texts. One of the largest annual campus events is THON which is a dance marathon that raises money for the Diamond Fund which uses the proceeds to research pediatric cancer at the Hershey Medical Center. Last year the club raised over $10,000,000.00. That number pales in comparison the the $50,000,00.00 the Division 1 Penn State Nittany Lion Mens Football team generates for the university annually. Playing in the Big10, one of the most competitive divisions in the NCAA, the Nittany Lions regularly sell out their home games in Beaver Stadium which seats over 100,000 die-hard, paying fans. In recent years, the women Nittany Lions Volleyball team have become a dominant force to be reckoned with and are starting to develop a cult following of their own. After your final final in Happy Valley, you're not truly recognized amongst the alumni without running in the Mifflin Streak. A simple sprint down a street on campus in nothing but your birthday suit to close the chapter on your life at PSU. WE ARE!

Scholarships: Unfortunately, I have very little experience dealing with the financial aid department. I have always had a scholarship and my tuition has always been taken care of in a timely matter. For what its worth, I've never heard any of my peers speak negatively of the financial aid office.

Nightlife: If partying is what you are into, you will fit in well and wont have any problems finding like-minded people. There are plenty of frat houses, on campus events, and bars to relax and enjoy yourself in after studying diligently all week.

Transportation: Blue loop, white loop, and the links are all free and will take you anywhere you wanna go in town.

Facilities: Campus life at PSU is what you make of it. There is alot of things to keep you busy.

Majors: I am very happy that I worked hard to get into the Business School at PSU, hopefully my degree will help me land a job in my field of study.

Majors: might get stuck with a roomate that does not share your lokes.

Academics: The academics at Penn State are top notch! Most of the professors are some of the best in the country. As an engineering major I took some of the hardest classes for a freshman and with enough studying you will do fine. Penn state also hooks you up when it comes to internships, there are huge job fairs during both semesters.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: There is nothing better than Penn State athletics. Most people just think it's all about the football team, but there are so many amazing sports teams at Penn State. There is no feeling that replaces the one you get when you are with your fellow students in Beaver Stadium though. IM sports are also very popular. There is a little bit for everyone.

Scholarships: You need a lot of outside scholarships to get a decent amount of aid

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many good eats off campus. Since we're in a college town Penn State students can use Lion Cash at downtown restaurants and you get discounts the more you frequent certain places. You'd never get bored with the food downtown

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I've always felt safe walking alone at night on campus. They have escorts to help you walk back to your living area if you feel unsafe or uneasy about walking by yourself. Campus is relatively safe and has a low crime rate

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: If you want or have to live off campus, there are many options. Some are cheap and some are expensive. Lions Crossing, Nittany Crossing and State College Park are great options if you can't find an apartment downtown. Plus they give you free bus passes and a lot of other cool amenities.

Despite common reservations about the location and climate, most Penn State students are fiercely loyal to their alma mater. Penn State boasts one of the largest alumni populations in the United States; graduates are proud of their degrees, and employers recognize the University’s name immediately. Although the campus is located in a very rural area, school is technologically up-to-date and on the cutting-edge of current research.

Aside from academics, PSU is also known for its social scene, especially in relation to sports and parties. Nittany Lion football—home of the 2008 Big Ten Champions—is a national draw and a point of pride for both the University and the town of State College. For anyone interested in playing or watching varsity sports, PSU is a top choice. Penn State has also been ranked highly by many polls and “party school” surveys as one of the top party schools in the nation. While it certainly isn’t the wildest town, these rankings are definitely accurate. The small-town setting and large-school atmosphere makes for little else in the way of entertainment, so it can be hard to avoid encountering the party scene during your time as a student. Still, the mix of work and leisure seems to work well for most of the student body, and academic standards at Penn State remain relatively high. It’s easy to spend four years at Penn State as an ever-serious student, focused completely on whatever you choose to study. With so many opportunities to relax nearby, balance and moderation are some of the best skills to learn from your four years in college.
